Seemore putters, eye dominance, and closing one eye when putting.

I've always been an extremely mediocre putter with a tendency to the yips.  On the SAM I take the putter outside and then loop it to the inside.  I'm left eye dominant.  I've got a SeeMore putter but I've never used it while playing as I seem to have trouble lining it up.  Specifically, when I cover the red dot, I can still partially see the red dot with one eye, usually the right eye.  With both eyes open I can't completely make the red dot disappear and when that happens, I make a particularly bad stroke.  I was experimenting with it this morning and I noticed that if I line the putter up on the target line and then close my right eye and then adjust my left eye so that the red dot is covered, I make a really good smooth stroke and the putter stays on it's arc.  Making much more putts as a consequence with the right eye closed.  

 

So what does this mean?  Do others have this problem?  Am I doing something wrong with my eyes?  is there something wrong with my eyes?  I know I have astigmatism, could this be the problem?  

 

I'm going to try it out on the course this afternoon.  Thoughts?  I would love to hear what the SeeMore people say about this.

Never tried the SeeMore stuff personally and I'm also right-eye dominant (right being my trail side) so I'm pretty useless here but first things first, how much do you practice your putting? 

 

People have a tendency to not practice and then attribute their struggles to a million technical things.

 

Hopefully someone with a dominant lead-side eye can assist though. I could imagine that screwing with one's vision of the hole. But I would also think you'd get used to it. Surely there are 1,000 Pro's with that same condition.

Are you right handed?

 

If you are putting better with covering the red dot only from the left eye, then I'd imagine that you are moving the ball further forward in your stance. Thats going to slightly change your setup, and has as much to do with the change in the path and stroke and the eye dominance. What model putter do you have? I imagine you'd do better with less offset.

I realize thread is almost 2 years old but a center-shafted SeeMore putter can act as its own eye dominance test.

 

Set up a camera evenly from a face on angle. Address the putter-head in center of stance with prayer grip (level shoulders) then hide the RST dot with one eye closed and then do the same with the other while filming the whole sequence.

 

Play back the video and whichever eye makes the shaft exactly vertical or closest to it on video, that's your dominant eye.
