Shapland Stand bag

Recommended Posts

I love my Shapland 2.3, I've used it for about 7/8 months now.  It looks great, pockets are great, the stand works great, the strap system works very well and the bag wears super comfortable.  I do get minor club tangle with midsize leather grips and a jumbo putter grip but that seems to be with the way it sat on the Walker trolley because when I sat on the V1R it was way better.  That being said, I am going to be listing mine for sale on here soon with some other items, just time for a change.  At the time I was deciding between Vessel and Shapland but I went with the Walker Trolley so the Shapland was a perfect fit..I get asked all the time if they're from the same manufacturer.  I am now moving on from the Walker to a SM V1R and I thought its a good time for a bag swap as well..  Keep an eye out for it on the F/S soon...

I mean, a hoofer lite is 5lbs. So, 5.5 isn't that outrageous especially if it's well balanced.  Then again, I don't have your condition so maybe it is.

If the stand was carbon so it was down to 5lbs, would you buy it for $50 more?

Personally I would, yes. Days when I’m forced to carry I remove as much excess weight as possible: I’ll carry three balls, remove extra gloves, tees, ballmarkers, and sometimes I’ll take out a club. I’m not handicapped by it but I’ve identified that carrying unbalanced and excessive weight on my right shoulder (dominant side) yields a really high chance of tweaking my back in a way that will put me on the couch for a week. I’ve done better about strapping the load on both shoulders, but I still need to sling the bag onto my right shoulder to pick it up. I won’t entertain a bag with a curb weight of more than 5lbs if I have the option.

I’m in the market for a new bag because I moved and my golf bag had my former club’s logo on it. That logo looks fairly similar to a rival club to the club we just joined so lucky me gets to go shopping. After a great deal of research I just pulled the trigger on a navy Shapland stand bag. Can’t wait to get it.

Received my bag about a week ago but wanted to wait to comment until I'd had a chance to carry it out on the course.  Played nine holes yesterday and could not be happier with this bag. The quality of materials and construction is phenomenal, feels more like a piece of fine luggage than a golf bag.  Love the understated nature of the design, just a joy to carry and use.

FWIW I did not have any issues with club tangle. It was sometimes a little hard to find the right spot to put clubs back in but that has as much to do with the fact that I have a big towel hung off my alignment sticks that are in the same well as the driver and putter than any issue with the design of the bag. And honestly, the clubs carried so easily it had me wondering whether I really need to use my pushcart. I'd say I'll still use it when walking 18 but for walking 9 from now on I'll probably just carry.

Last point, I am coming from a Titleist StaDry and I can't get over how much easier the zippers are to use.  Might not sound like much but man it was a night and day difference each time I needed to get a tee or fish out another another ball.

Can't recommend these bags highly enough.

actually styled more like a L8 with more goodies. IMHO…

Yes, he started w/ the layout from L8 and then refined from there.

From the website:

Henry Rowland is the founder of Shapland. Born of British parents and raised in the northern suburbs of Chicago, he oddly enough became fascinated with golf bags at a young age. If you don’t believe us, check out this home video from his 14th birthday (he was a late bloomer...Ha!) For as long as he could remember, Ping manufactured the bag for the serious golfer. They were everywhere in junior golf. They were the high school and university team bags and at the time were carried by anyone who understood the importance of well-designed, innovative golf bags. At the top of that list was the L8 golf bag, the inspiration for Shapland and where our story begins - innovating on the best products of the past.

Hello, hows the opening size of the bag?

For those who carry 14 clubs, are they tight?

Are they similar to Vessel VLS, VLX, Jones Trouper, Titleist Linkmaster or similar to Vessel Player 3, standard OEM bags?

The bag opening is slightly larger than the new Linkmaster bag, just a little smaller than a Ping Hoofer Lite, holds 14 clubs just fine. DSC_5602.JPG.2790e4c35cd75c6a2156bae3195b4870.JPGDSC_5615.JPG.9e08977ebd7ee1dc8691fb4c3c3c3cb9.JPG

I posted these pictures in another thread but wanted to include here so others researching Shapland bags would see them.

I weighed the bag using my bathroom scale and it came out to 6.0/6.2 lbs including the straps but not the rain cover. It has plenty of storage, the ball pocket had 18 balls in it and a big water bottle still slides in with ease. The cart strap pass thru is a little tight when I put it on the Clicgear but is a breeze with a traditional cart strap.  As another mentioned, the zipper for the range finder pocket gets a little finicky but the pocket is so big you can leave it in there unzipped and it won’t fall out. I tried to capture the quality of materials, the bag is a joy to use, six out of five stars IMO.

These bags are awesome. They carry well and seem to hold up pretty well over time.

I don’t personally own one, but I have carried them before. I have met the owner/family of Shapland quite a few times. They are all super nice, down to earth people. I’m not sure that that matters to many, but I know I like knowing that I’m buying from good people.

Great review and pictures. Couldn't agree more, absolutely love mine! Did not realize it came in at 6lbs though. As a walker i'm always looking to shed as much weight as possible on the back. Still worth it IMO

I would not take my post as holy grail, it was on a bathroom scale that only measures to nearest 0.2lbs. Hopefully someone else with a better way to weigh (haha) will come along.

That said, I would gladly trade a pound of carry weight for a bag that’s so enjoyable to use. No stiff zippers, no crinkly material that’s rough to the touch, no super tight pockets that I can barely squeeze the hands attached to my 6’4” frame into. My previous Titleist P4 StaDry was super light but was nowhere near as functional IMO.

These bags look great, but having had 2 replacements due to poor durability, I would suggest that you don’t buy unless you have a usage of less than once a week.

Unfortunately I confirm that the customer service is excellent. But I would have preferred not to have needed to know this.

Just curious, what wasn't durable enough?

Bump. Any long term durability reviews?

I have had mine for 6+ months now and it still looks virtually new.  I will take a picture when I get a chance, I absolutely love it.

I did notice he is on to Stand Bag 2.4, has raised the price (possibly due to the upgrade to carbon fiber legs), now using a lighter leather that will likely darken/patina more, looks pretty sharp.

FWIW, I don’t think it’s fair to Shapland to come in here and mention durability issues that were so bad you had to get two replacements and then not answer follow up questions as to what those issues were. What were the durability issues you had that required two replacements?

Ironically, this is as exactly what I was looking for in my thread about a durable bag… I think.

any long term reviews? Anyone know the difference between the three bags?

i've had my bag for a season, i walk exclusively unless I'm playing in a member guest (played in 2 this past year). Held up perfectly fine, cart strap didn't hurt it in any way, granted i don't ride so i'm not sure about long-term exposure to that strap doing anything. I will say i wish the bag was lighter. It does get to be a bit heavy, my course is not the easiest walk and i'm constantly looking for ways to lessen the load. I will say, the bag is a real head-turner. I get a comment every time i take it out. If he could figure out a way to get that bag weight to 4lbs-4.5lbs it would be a knockout. i could point out a few things on the bag where weight could be cut. Just my two cents
