My friend and I road tripped to PGA for Wednesday practice round.  Tuesday evening at local bar, Mito was being interviewed via podcast, probably 15 people in the room.  Never heard of the guy BUT very likable!  You know the rest, we return home, he’s leading the tournament all 4 days until final 18th hole, crazy stuff, great dude!

what is the tip diameter in the Mizuno 3 iron?

I had to revisit @Fujikura Golf's website because I swore those HB shafts are 0.370 diameter and it instructs builders that the shaft can be tapered down to fit into 0.355 long irons.

 

@Fujikura Golf do you have any tips/tricks to best taper the shaft into a long iron? I feel like this can become a disaster for DIYers... me included haha

There are some threads over on the Club Tech forum, but I've done it by just lightly sanding just the last quarter inch of the tip to just barely taper it and keep dry fitting until it's inserted all the way into the hosel. It's really just the very, very end of the shaft that needs to be shaved to make it work (man, this sounds so dirty.) The big guys have a thing that looks like a pencil sharpener. Most competent club builders can handle it....I'm far from a pro but I've done it successfully several times.

You can fit 370 into Pings with minimal tip sanding - some heads accept 370 loosely

Ream the head out to 370! Than you don't have to worry about over sanding a shaft

@semarlor Is correct in that all is needed is quite light sanding and it takes some serious buffoonery to mess that up, so no need to stress @stevechooster. 

@animalgolfs is correct as well in that PING have different hosels that basically accept anything with a reliance on a specialized collared ferrule for fit. .370 shafts go straight in with no modification.
