1991 Maxfli Tour LTD forged irons, any information?

I picked up a set of Maxfli Tour LTD.s today and this is what I know about them:

 

3i > PW: 1991 Maxfli Tour Ltd Japanese forged mid-size cavity backs. 

True Temper Dynamic Gold S400 stiff flex shafts with Swing Rite ½ cord grips.

Shaft bands pretty much in tact and very usable grips.

5 iron length is 38", SN# 871S8PGO on shafts, very little off sets, with pinned heads on the back of hosels.

 

Here is what I read while doing some research:

They were possibly forged by Miura Golf.

 

Anyone know anything else about these beauties?

Huge fan here of maxfli irons over the years, from mid 60's through the "made in Australia" irons and these irons up to the revolution black dots.

 

Mine are similar to yours, not in as good of nick. Same pinning. Same ferrules. Half cord grips, but by Lamkin. Gold plus s400 shafts, story was they initially had s300s but the gold plus were breakable at the tips so s400 were then used. I understand the use of DG's came later. Not aware they were Miura forged but also don't believe my clubs are JDM's, not aware where they were forged.

 

Great clubs, great feel, heads pretty large though. A fine and classic set. Play them!

 

Where are your serial numbers? Haven't noticed any on my set, not in the same place as Maxfli placed them historically. 

 

There's some old maxfli threads here, I recall some magazine ads for these clubs, maybe I saved a photo somewhere.

Designed by Tad Moore (@majic) based on some cavity-backs he made for Robert Gamez and Fuzzy Zoeller and others. Pretty sure they are made in Japan but I'm sure Tad can clear that up.

MrFlipper. Thank you for all the great information and the Maxfli Ads. The SN# I referenced to are numbers on a small shaft band about an inch below the TT Dynamic Gold shaft band. Not on the head it's self.

I did find a 6 or 7 year old golfwrx discussion on these clubs that was very interesting and informative. Thanks again.

I had two sets of these back in the day, the 91's were pinned like these and the '93 or '94 were not pinned.  lost them a few years ago to a B&E but i still have the 1 iron.  Amazing clubs i still dream about hitting.

If you click on some of the links there you can find the forged cavity (FC) versions from dunlop japan.

 

I have a few sets from there, notably a NOS set of the 201FC. Unfortunately they have r400 shafts which make no sense to me. They do come in a beautiful gold colored finish...
