Deleted messages

Hi,

I'm having a problem with messaging which I'd like to report and hopefully get fixed. Specific messages in a thread I'm communicating within are getting deleted. The entire thread up to today is not gone, which is a problem because there is a transaction associated with it.

I'm not sure who is responsible, but it is only happening in this thread and it is making it hard to finish this transaction.

Please advise?

Hmmmm, never really realized this but yes, the messages in a stream/thread between 2 people seem to be exactly like a "normal" thread.

Did YOU delete any individual messages ? I'm guessing no.

Are any of the other poster's messages gone ? I'm guessing yes.

It appears, but I cannot be sure, that a person CAN delete specific messages within a "thread" of messages (I just did it on one of my multi-"post" messages).

And that message (that *I* previously sent the other guy) is now gone from the message "thread.

Of course I can't see how the other person would view it but, if it's really a "thread", then MY deleted message would/should no longer be in HIS message thread either since theyre really only a single thread on the board - just only being able to be viewed by the specific parties. Maybe I'll shoot him a separate message and ask if he see the deleted message.

Anyway, this experiment of mine suggests that if the other party to your transaction deleted any messages within that "thread", they'll be gone and you wouldn't see them any more (either).

NOT good !!! ALTHOUGH, if "important enough", I'm thinking board management may be able to recover any deletions.

Just a thought but maybe its because you were doing a transaction in a thread outside of the BST.

Are you refer to personal messages between you and a member through the personal message system or in a for sale posting?

what is the link to post.

There should be no transaction communication in classifieds posts. It should all be through the personal message system.

This was in the personal message system. We were wrapping up a transaction from the BST. I know I didn't erase any of them, he says he didn't either. Apprx 10 messages are deleted, only think left is the tracking number. It's weird.

To the Admin: All the messages are visible now. You can see from the flow of the thread that messages were not being delivered, or were later disappearing creating confusion. We both kept replying multiple times to each other to get around it.

If there are questions about post or messages then click the report button in post.

In general, unless invited into a conversation, there is no mod or admin visibility. You can click on one of the suspect messages and staff can look at it.

Beyond that we have never had a reported issue of messages disappearing or reappearing in personal messages.

Also, you should be receiving a copy of every PM sent to your email address, unless it’s been turned off or not valid.
