Greywalls advice

Recommended Posts

Played it a couple yrs back,on the 4th of july. We were first ones off@7:30. We did a replay at 1:00. The course was tons of fun but loved Marquette even more. The food and beer were amazing along with nightlife. Only played greywalls, after driving so much dident feel like trexing over to timberstone Would do that next time,if and when. Would personally vrbo a cool place in downtown Marquette or on lk.superior.

The Casino at Sweetgrass has stay and plays with Greywalls.  That is what we did and it made it easy.  But Greywalls is about 90 minutes from Sweetgrass, so be warned on that.

Greywalls is highly unique.  I had big expectations and was let down.  I find it tricked up, but I also did not play well that day which certainly hurt my opinion.  I however hit many good shots that were severely punished.  YMMV

Some of the green complexes are a little severe for a resort style course... I don't remember the hole, but it was on the back 9 and I got so mad because the ball just didn't want to stay on the green

Its not a resort though, most tee times are member times. A few of the greens are severe, but the course is an absolute blast to play.

I guess I just associate it as a resort style because of the stay and play stuff you can do with Sweetgrass.  But I agree, other than my meltdown I had an absolute blast.  It's about a 5 hour drive for me, but I would definitely do it again.

Or was #9 green, you can see lk superior from the hole. Impossible to hold the green with a front left pin.

The Perfect 4-some packages run through the Sweetgrass group is one of the best values in golf.  A few years back my group played 4 rounds between Sweetgrass, Greywalls & Timberstone and stayed 2 nights at the casino for around $350 total.  It felt like stealing.

The trip requires quite a bit of driving, but now that the Island Resort has built a 2nd course nearby I'd recommend cutting out Timberstone and centering a trip around Greywalls, Sweetgrass & Sage Run.   We played Sweetgrass multiple times on our trip and it was one of the best-manicured publics I've ever stepped foot on.

My group is flying to Marquette, but driving to play Timberstone in the morning. We were going to play Sweetgrass on the way back, and then Heritage/Greywalls the next day. Would you recommend staying at the Casino or trekking back to Marquette?

I'd only stay at the casino if you were getting a package deal and/or gambling, otherwise forget about it. The only thing at the course/casino is the course/casino.  If you want to stay close to Sweetgrass (i.e. don't feel like driving) then stay in Escanaba, it is ok, there is enough restaurants and taproom/brewery or two and about ~ 15 mins (on way to Marquette). Marquette has much more to do, restaurants, multiple brewery/taprooms, etc. You are gonna have to make the drive at some point!

Either works.  Probably depends on how much drinking you are doing while you are playing.

We will be going to Greywalls en route from Forest Dunes to Sand Valley. The plan is Charlevoix (play Belvedere), two nights in Marquette, then Green Bay. Does that make sense?

A little bit of driving between Charlevoix and Marquette and then Marquette to Green Bay but thats an A+ trip.

Not as such. Probably stay overnight in Green Bay and check out the Packers HOF. We will be looking for a cool sports bar that sells good food.

Hinterland is across the street from Lambeau and has good food, you could also check out Titletown Brewery
