Garmin R10 on range

The R10 is great, for what you pay for it. It's not a GC3, but it's also $500 as opposed to $7500.

It's a radar based unit, so no dots needed and it works better on the range than indoors (as with all radar units). It directly measures launch angle and direction, club and ball speed, and tempo. Everything else is calculated, including spin numbers. I've found that it's "accurate enough" as a hobbyist.

Sometimes the shot path it calculates doesn't correlate to what you see in real life because of things like crappy range balls and gear effect. Sometimes the launch direction is off, because the unit is supposed to be directly behind the ball on your intended target line. Driver numbers are not completely reliable because of gear effect and ball speed. I have read that it can struggle with chips or half-wedges but I don't use it for those shots. All that being said, from 5W -> SW I'm happy with it.

I've found it's very accurate up to 200 yards, then it's a bit hit and miss. I could crush a drive out of the range (280) and it says something stupid like 225 yards and 9000 spin 😄  but as above, you get what you pay for.

Even if it only works for long irons through wedges, that's more than 75% of the game so still a pretty big win for the price, IMO.

I'm waiting on mine to come. I will be mainly using it in backyard into my net. But it's my understanding to have to have it Level and you need to have the correct length between the Net and ball and also between the ball and R10. From everything I've read if those things are right them it can be pretty accurate. Same would go for the range only you don't have net.

I’ve got one set up indoors and with the new firmware I use the prov1x rct balls and it works just fine. Chipping thru driver but I live around 160 ball speed with the driver and it seems to work just fine. Sometimes you get something funky but that happens with any launch monitor. I sold my Mevo plus on here and kept the Garmin r10. If that tells you anything

If you are using the R10 at the range will it pick up the flight of someone else’s ball hitting next to you?  I’m thinking of getting one of these but would exclusively use it outdoors at the range.

98% of the time that shouldn't be a problem. I have only run into it at ranges with tight spacing and a righty hitting in the space directly to the left of mine.

I find the R10 accurate with distance 95% of the time.  Every once in a while it gives a funky reading, like a shot that I see goes 150ish reads at 92 yards.  The app could be better and could improve when it comes to organizing, storing and analyzing your data.  You can't look back on a range session from last month and get your average swing speed with you're driver.  You'd have to manually pull the numbers out and load them into a spread sheet to keep track of your numbers.  I haven't dove into the Awesome Golf app but that might have better capabilities in this regard.

confirmed. It also doesn't seem to like wedges much either.

It's good if you just want to hit a 7 iron all day long.

I know there's a bunch of threads on the R10 and I've read through most (if not all) of them. Seeing as this one is on page one and seems fairly applicable I'll just ask here instead of starting a new one.

I have an opportunity to pick up an almost new R10 for a literal steal. Will be used mostly on an outdoor range (off mats unfortunately) but into a net here and there. Worth it? I get it won't be as good as the super high end, but will it at least be close enough?

IMHO the R10 is an incredible value for what you get at its retail price. If you're getting it for much less, I don't see how it wouldn't be worth it. It'll be more useful than the monitor you don't purchase at all because it's $2K+...

That said, I hope it's not a literal steal. I don't want to see you going to jail lol 😉
