Update on Srixon Z Star diamond

I finally broke down and bought a dozen Diamond. I went out and played 9 today only used 1 ball. It was cold about 52° wind was gusting to 20 it was brutal at times. Anyway I Really did like the ball, better than I thought I would. It definitely flew pretty Dany good and straight in the wind, Nice med flight for me. Very nice feel off the irons which I liked and again nice ball flight off irons for me. These greens are brutal right now, not much grass and like ice!! I had no problem stopping my short irons. Chips checked up pretty well. Putter felt just soft enough not too soft not like a rock. Now where I saw a problem which is likely not much is durability. It scuffed pretty bad but I did hit one Railroad tie. But after 9 hole with 1 ball it looked like I had played 18 with it. So other than that the Diamond is definitely a performer just wish they had it in Yellow. But either way I may have found my favorite ball unless there's something very similar with better durability.

thanks for sharing.  Pretty good synopsis.  I didn't have the durability issues, outside of playing wet courses that ball got dirtier than my Prov1's.  Even wiping them off during lift, clean and place they didn't seem to want to get all the way clean.  Like a stain.  On dry green courses I had no issues.  It's primarily the mud. Overall a very good ball that ticks a lot of boxes.

I’ve been playing Left Dash for a year or so. Loved the ball. Had a ball fitting and the Diamond came up as a better fit.

I’m long off tea but have smooth iron swing. Less aggressive than driver swing. Ball performs great for feel distance and control. Lovely to putt with. Soft and with control.

However I’ve had numerous issues with the cover.

it splits around the circumference, a ball does not last a round.

I’m in the uk and emailed Srixon with pics and detailed issue.

response was interesting

now with the amount of damage / case split. I cannot see how this won’t have an effect on the ball.
The most severely damaged ball has played 18 holes. The other two 5 holes and 7 holes.

Have returned and awaiting response. But having happened on three balls I’m thinking Left Dash may be going back in the bag.  Such a shame because it really did perform great for me.

First I’ve seen of this issue with the Diamond. Seen it on the other two models but what worries me about this is the issue seems to be related to the factory it’s made in. I don’t understand why Srixon can’t or won’t fix this issue. It’s a shame because they are great golf balls, but so many people switch to something else because the seam issue. Just crazy they can’t fix it.

Yeah that's crazy, since I made this post I have went away from the Diamond, the more I played it the more I realized it didn't work as well for my game as I thought. I have been playing the Z Star XV which is an excellent Ball just wish it had better greenside spin and Stopping power. I'm waiting to try these New Pro v1x next week. I'm not a fan of paying that price for Titleist Balls and usually won't, but with the loyalty program coming back next month I may get 4dz if they work better around the greens than the XV

What's crazy is I played 4 dozen of these balls last year and never saw this once.  I wonder if they make their balls in 2 different factories.  I don't know.  I really like this ball and the 23 feels better than last years.  I really compress the ball and always have pretty fresh grooves and have never had durability issues.  It just shocks me at some of the issues I see pop up on this forum sometimes.  I will say that all of the Titleist balls have had exceptional durability these last 5 or so years.  They really are the benchmark for quality in a lot of ways.

I don't understand why they're not making the Diamond in yellow

I used to play the Srixons in white and hated the seam issue. Moved to yellow for better sight and I must admit, it might be the slight tweak to the cover material with the yellow but I dont notice it at all anymore... might be worth a look? I havent lost a ball in the rough since switching! The yellow is amazing for that.

Would love the diamond in yellow

I've had the same seem issue with the Diamond ball and shelved it for now because of this issue.  Though I really liked the performance and feel.  Might have to give the new 2023 version a try and see if the same issue persists.
