I was there as a 2-ball the last week of April 2023 and had no issue switching between courses when needed. On a Saturday morning we were able to pivot from the Castle Course to the New course and play as a 2-ball. Also played Jubilee one morning as a 2-ball. The gentleman I dealt with at the starters hut under the Links clubhouse was very helpful and accommodating. Enjoy your time in the Auld Grey Toon!

thankyou vm

for those that have played SA Links trust courses. regarding the turf, which set of irons would be better suited for the holy grail land?

Ping i210's or T150/200 ??  please. thanks in advance

whatever ones you like better! I know people who have played both iron set as a links member.

Hit the ball first then you don't need to worry about the turf. I am using Artisan irons fine in Scotland, wedges that I was fit for in Texas on Bermuda.

Agree totally

you could get a day like today - 9 holes into the wind(20mph) then 3 holes down wind and it disappears! I was hitting it 2/3 clubs difference into the wind. it was cold also.

im no stranger to playing in cold and wind. south shores of Long Island, NY have plenty of cold windy days in early March.  i am expecting and looking foward to it.

hi all, has anyone heard about going to the starters shack each morning and asking to be put on a waiting list?  a coworkers friend has a son that goes to the University at SA.  just found this out and he told my coworker to tell me this.

from what I just read on a different thread. If you don’t get on in the singles ballot they put you on a waiting list that’s updated live time.

Confirm that but that’s what I read.

LOL

FWIW, my three trips that involved links golf found me playing Callaway Legacy Blacks in Scotland a couple of years in a row and some new Ping i525s in Ireland on a later trip.

The Callaways were wonderful off the turf but I always loved them.  The Pings were okay but I didn't like them much at all and wish I hadn't ever bought them, haha.  I did have new Ping Glide wedges and the low bounce and grind for the "tight" lies was terrible on the 58.  No reason a medium bounce with a good forgiving grind can't work and actually work fine on links turf.  The standard S grind I had on my Vokey 54/58 wedges in Scotland was perfect all around for me.

I think the only thing that matters is take the clubs you play with with most of the time and play the best and don't take along some set that just showed up shortly before the trip.

if you go on wait list doo you have to hang close to starters shack all day? or do they call your mobile phone. just wondering how much time they would give you to answer the bell.  i would hate to be out on one of the other courses and get the call your teeing off on TOC in 20 mins.

That I am not sure about.

maybe @hammergolf knows the answer? I’m sure he or someone else will chime in with the answer!

From what @slideguy has written, it seems very organized and simple. Here is a link to the new format thread.
