... Big Stu has played this way his whole life. There is certainly something to hitting golf shots and not making golf swings. Ya try and hit a 15 yd cut and don't quite pull it off and ya realize ya just din't quite pull it off. What you don't do is think about any positions or why you missed it and try to correct on the next swing. 

... I was struggling a little this past spring, probably the result of just getting apathetic from playing too much with friends and just not giving every shot it's due and taking them for granted. Taking part in the Cobra challenges: one week woods/hybrids only, next week irons only and next week 4 clubs only. I had to hit so many more golf shots and I rarely had perfect yardages so I had to play more golf shots than normal, focusing on the shot and not my swing. It was a real blessing in disguise.

Yeah, it’s been hot here and everything is suffering. The greens were recently sanded, but they rolled true and actually fast.

Did you play a cut into the back right pin?  Or go for the middle?

No cut in my game, unfortunately. I went directly at the pin, ended up a little left and just off the back. So technically, I 1-putted for par.

Lot of older courses around here are especially penal if long. Just played a tournament this weekend at a course with greens that all sloped back to front, all elevated, especially on back side, and probably half the holes had some sort of hazard 30 feet off the back, all sloping down to it.  Small greens and my play was mostly to front edge, over the green cost you a couple shots.

... I have played courses where leaving it short of the green was preferable to past the pin. Most courses are designed with more trouble short than long or at least equal trouble. Pretty rare to have water behind the green with none in front or to the side. But I think we are talking more long as in past the pin but on the green, or at least the back fringe. 

... My normal muni hosts quite a few big tournaments including a pre qualifier for the Phoenix Open. Greens usually run medium-fast and around a 9 or 10, so being above the hole isn't normally a problem unless you are on one of the tiered greens with the pin close to the slope. But during some of the Tourney's the greens run at a 12 and one of the State Championships were at a 13. Above the hole was brutal and you could roll the ball off the green if not extremely careful.

... OK, the experiment is over. I bought my Stealth2 HD with a Ventus Red Velocore shaft with a stock length of 45.5" and I am missing the center a little too much. Figure it is a $950 driver so I didn't wanna cut it until I was positive I was keeping it. I am, so I cut it down to 45" and am hoping that produces better contact. 111* and over 20% humidity today but the weather is finally breaking Friday with temps more typical for August so I hope to get plenty of days to see how it works.

Velocore is some sorcery though. For real. I absolutely love my Ventus Black. It's just so ... stable. Feels like I have to TRY to not square it up at impact.

... I carry my driver around 230 so "a little bendy" is exactly what I need. I have a smooth swing that I would compare to Amy Yang (at least in my head 😜) and have always needed a little help from my shaft. My other gamer is a AD-IZ that also has a little extra giddy up to it.

I don't think people factor in elevation change & wind enough in shots.

Wind is twice what you feel at tree tops.

Stock approach I add 1/2 club, always. 140 to pin is 147 shot.

Only time I green light full yardage is when it's good lie,  dead or slight down wind and long is death.
