Las Vegas

Duct Tape

Recommended Posts

This is not a Tour Talk topic, but where I mostly hang out and hoping for some advice from @aenemated and other Vegas folks I often see here.

I’m taking my honey to see Adele next month. I know, I know, NOT my first choice but hoping for good behavior points for future golf trips.

I would love some advice on best places to eat - steaks, seafood, Italian (major bummed that Il Mulino is closed, right @bscinstnct?). We have four nights there.

Thanks.

Heya buddy!

Honestly, our favorite steak house is Oscar's at the Plaza. (We're actually going there tomorrow night to see the dinner series the man himself does). Our VERY favorite spot is Piero's. (We're kinda regulars there) Also really love Esther's just off Main St in the Arts District.

Barry's at Circa is pretty delicious. And Circa in general we quite enjoy. C*cktails at the Speakeasy at the Mob Museum are actually quite amazing. Also Oak & Ivy inside Container Park. Golden Steer is great for some OG Vegas vibes but my favorite thing about that spot is the table-side made Caesar, not the steaks funny enough. Locals seem to really love Herbs & Rye on Sahara but honestly ... I wasn't particularly impressed. Good drinks menu but the food and atmosphere I found lacking.

We actually never really hit up the Strip too often. Mon Ami Gabi at Paris is probably the only spot I'd suffer the Strip for. Or Din Tai Fung at Aria but Xiao Long in Chinatown is just as good (if not better) and way less of a pain to get to.

Firefly Tapas on Paradise is another favorite. The Cracked Egg is my favorite breakfast spot kinda anywhere - I think the nearest one to the Strip is on S Rainbow and the 215; so like maybe 15-20mins from the Strip.

I, of course, cannot NOT mention my beloved Double Down Saloon for ... fun times. 🙂 Did a thing there just the other night! Also check out Frankie's Tiki Room my old pal P. Moss runs (aside from the DD) Decent chance you'll run into my guitar player slingin drinks. Tell 'em you know Trent and you'll get a big pour. Or he might tell you to GTFO hahah

If you want something really special, memorable and unique then you can make reservations at E (hidden room at Jaleo) at the Cosmo.  If you don't want to go so extravagant then just do the main restaurant Jaleo there at the Cosmo.

On strip: Of course Joel Robuchon, Michael Mina, SW Steak, Lakeside and Sparrow and Wolf

Off strip: Honey Salt, Salute, Other Mama, Andiron (steak, but also brunch)

Downtown:  Vic and Anthonys

There are so many more...but these are where I have always enjoyed myself.

Mina's Strip Steak at Mandalay is great. Been going there for years.

Pretty sure that's where I proposed to the former Mrs. aenemated 😂

Went for my bachelor party a couple years ago. We did the touristy stuff and I like to gamble. The best food we had was at Gordon Ramsay Burger in Planet Hollywood I think. We got there half hour before opening and it wasn't a long wait at all and was the best burger and fries I have ever had. We didn't realize you had to have reservations everywhere (we have casinos back home but never gets as crowded as Vegas). I wanted to eat at Hell's Kitchen but didn't have a chance to.

We stayed at NY, NY and the last night there we stopped at some chicken place at the hotel/casino. The food was good but the drinks were the best Ive ever had. They had some local company that made their own sodas or something like that. I went thru like 4 or 5 of the cream soda drink they had (yea I know Vegas isn't known for sodas but these were great). Anyone on this thread know what company or place im talking about? Would love to see if I could order some of their drinks.

Spent a couple nights on Fremont st. I liked it better than the regular strip and loved Binions.

First off, don't sleep on Adele.  I am not a fan, don't own any albums, etc. but my wife and kids have gone and thought she was not only talented, but a wonderful performer and person.

As for the food options, I don't really have any ideas, but I will second the idea of getting off the Strip if you're able.  If you aren't in a casino with the tram, it is a long hike to escape your casino.  You look outside and say, "Let's go across the street..." and 20 minutes later you are still getting across the street.

One thing you may want to look into is the Fremont Experience website, depending on the night(s) you have the Adele tickets, there might be someone on Fremont, though it is pretty early in the year for the bigger acts to appear.  I have seen, just on accident, Night Ranger, Survivor, and Loverboy just playing away on the street.  Obviously they are re-treads, but who isn't "Working for the Weekend?"

Going there next month for a big equipment show, actually I hate the place but every three years it is required.

One year we went the Sushi place that was on DDD and that was fantastic. Pretty shabby place but excellent food and service.

Thanks for some ideas off the strip.

Sounds like my kinda place! I love great food, but the stuffy high end places aren’t my jam. Make me feel like I have to be way too polite and proper. When I eat it’s more like a feeding! Haha

I have eaten Sushi in a lot of places, all over the Caribbean and South America with Peru and Chile being  standouts, Japan was just sublime and in another class but this was one of the best outside of Japan.

The presentation was beautiful and the food excellent, we went in with 6 people all drinking and they never missed a beat.

I can't remember the name but it was featured on DDD a few years ago.

I am going to look it up and will be going back next month to see if they have held up thru the vid and everything.

@Jim53  Nothing screams fresh sushi like that place by Sherwin Williams in the desert!  (KIDDING).  I've eaten there as well and it was very very good!

It was a total surprise that it was actually good, yep Sushi in the desert is not high on my list to seek out. But i had watched the DDD show and figured it would be a goof, turned out great.

Loved our trip to Vegas. Adele was excellent. Great voice and performed. The show production was stunning, esp the rain and then burning piano on one song (set fire to rain, doh).

Arrived at night at Bellagio just as fountains were starting. Incredible view at night. Mrs Duct Tape loved it, therefore I was happy. We ate at SW Steak and Michael Mina’s, both excellent. The other night we ate at a place at the top of Mandalay, can’t remember name. Great view, food just so so. Drinks at the neighboring bar were great. Didn’t much like the glass elevator ride!  Afraid of heights, faced the other way.

Greatly enjoyed the drinks at speakeasy at Mob Museum. Thanks @aenemated!  Also had fun at another speakeasy, The Laundry Room. Very innovative drinks, has three different versions of old fashioneds. Then went for a night walk down Fremont where there was a very good band, Hot Sauce, playing.

My favorite part?  Hiking the White Rock mountain loop at Red Rocks canyon park. Beautiful cool day with a little rain.

Sorry for the weather all week! It's been an incredibly weird winter around here. Last couple days have finally, finally been normal. Was nice to play in shorts again yesterday. Feel like I haven't been able to do that since like last October.

Laundry Room is great - as is Commonwealth in general. Super great spot. Stellar whisky selection.

Shoulda stuck around another week and come to my band's tour kickoff party on Wednesday; our monthly Weenie Roast at the Double Down Saloon! 😂 Takes a special kind to tolerate that spot - hard to recommend for most. But if ya ever see a dude in a Titleist or Taylormade cap there; it's me.
