Private Golf West Palm Beach (and surrounding areas)

I will be relocating to west palm sometime in the next 4-6 weeks and trying to do some research on joining a club in the area.  Does anybody have recent insight into any clubs?  I am 34 years old (will be 35 in April) so young executive membership would be ideal.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Abacoa in Jupiter has a thriving membership.

I am GenX.  If you really think I care about what you have to say, I don't.

Strongly recommend Bear Lakes. 2 terrific Nicklaus courses, great staff and easy to book tee times. Only problem is that initiation fee has gone way up since we joined

Bear Lakes is great. It was my #1 choice but the initiation fee got a little high during/post covid.

bumping the thread i started,

living down here full time, from all the research ive done it seems PGA national isn't a bad deal, 5 courses, decent dues/initiation; not far from me.  Anybody played or been a member?  got invited to play there saturday morning

We considered joining there. Played there a few times and we were underwhelmed, altho didn't play the Champion course.

It's fine for what it is. The new courses are great (Staple and Match). It is a resort with a private membership - lots of hotel guests and charity tournaments. Not the style of club that I personally would be interested in joining.

Are the other courses on property all solid options? I’ve never been so just curious how the rest compare to Champion.

I've only played the Fazio and Palmer, and as I said above, I was underwhelmed. Was told by a member that Fazio was reportedly paid about 3 million to redesign the course and all he did was switch the nines!

Any feedback on Wellington National?  Recently moved local and looking for a place to join.

How are the course conditions?  How do the Greens roll?  Is it fairly easy to get a game, good membership?  I have played in outings at Wanderers and Mayacoo Lakes.  How does Wellington compare course wise?  I also saw Banyan Golf Club was local.  Any idea what that is like?

Someone told me there isn't really a men's  locker room / card room area with bar to hang out.  Is that true?  If so any plans for that in the future.  Coming from the north that is usually a given at a club and I enjoy that social aspect as a younger person.

Thanks!

If you're willing to extend your search up north to Palm City you should check out Banyan Creek. Pretty fun course, usually in good shape, and from what I understand a good value for the membership.

Down here in Wellington I've been looking at the Fountains, but unsure if it will give me what I want in terms of easy last minute access and quick rounds, and they only allow walking after 2pm, and require a $20 "walking fee" to do so. Wellington National and Wanderers Club are on my radar but haven't been in touch yet. Maybe I will make more progress on it this summer...

I would stay away from Wellington National its a free for all there especially on the weekends. People from the neighborhood just drive their golf carts thru the course, use the bathrooms and drive the wrong way on the cart path.

It's very crowded on the weekends and has no structure or supervisor with regards to outside golf Operations. People just show up out of nowhere and start playing. A lot more of drinking on the course than playing on the weekends. This past Saturday as I was driving up to the 18th tee box eight very drunk guys blasting music decided to play the 18th hole again. One guy in the group was so drunk he was trying to hit the houses that are down the right side of the fairway. He kept missing the ball and was taking huge chunks out of the tee box and never fixing it. After finally making it to the green they were all yelling and screaming during all eight guys putts. To top it off two guys had a "putt off" to which the guy who make the putt thru his club and they all went crazy. This place is the worst and I didn't even talk about the condition of the course yet. If I could get my initiation fee back I would leave in a heartbeat.

What a review! I'm glad that nothing like that goes on at my club - which is a similar tier.

Did this get reported? Seems like this would at the very least a suspension.

I was so heated I decided to wait a few days before I wrote a scathing email to the general manager and owner. I’m in the process of writing one now.

I hope you didn’t pay a 5 figure initiation fee for Wellington National.

PGA national was right at the 5 figure mark a few years ago
