New Balls Please...

Hi,

 

I have been using the Snell MTB-X ball, but I understand it's due to be replaced with a new product in April/May but I'm out of balls for the new season. Looking for some advice on what I might consider.....

 

A few data points/piece of information:

 

Index - 10.1

Latest data I can find from Trackman - 3 hybrid - 140mph ball speed, 3700-4000 spin rate. 6 iron - 120 ball speed, 3700 spin rate

I hit my driver on average 265 yards

I have a pretty high ball flight ( I think?) - 6 iron is about 100ft, carry of 189 yards

 

Looking for something at a more competitive price point than the Pro-V1 if possible - maybe it's not the right ball for me anyway. 

 

Appreciate any input, I've never been that knowledge on the science behind ball selection.

Maxfli Tour X

 

I think that will be the closest ball to the MTB-X for the price point you are looking for

Looks like you could probably use a little more spin on your irons. I'd definitely look in to something like the PXG ball if wanting to stay out of the premium category. TXG testing has showed it spins in the Pro V1x category, should help with distance as well.

I play the Snell MTBX too, and also play the Vice Pro plus and Maxfli Tour X, and those two are also excellent balls. The Vice pro plus shade might be the coolest looking ball I've ever played.

Another vote for the Maxfli.  Great balls at great prices.

I like the feel of the Vice Pro slightly better, but the Pro Plus Shade is amazing. I much prefer it to the Pro Shade which is more a red -->orange gradient.

Tons of options out there these days. DTC and Maxfli probably offer the best price/performance combo.

I personally go with Srixon. Top quality balls (for the most part) but a few bucks cheaper than the competition. Available pretty much everywhere. No hassle getting them. Pretty good deals if you keep your radar up.

Plus, I rarely run into anyone playing Srixon balls. Makes it easy to identify yours.

Thanks all - just bought some Maxfli Tour X's, they had a special at Dicks. Look forward to trying them out!

They always have a special and they are really good balls.  I haven’t bought anything else since I tried them.

Why do you like the Shade? Does it just look cool or are there some other advantages?

For me it's highly visible in the grass, and in flight as well. The uniqueness of the gradient shading does have an aesthetic factor that I like as well, but it does seem to me that there is a practical benefit. That said, I can't think of anything more visible on the ground than the lime green Vice Pro and Pro+ balls. The only thing that comes close is an old box of Vovik Vivids that a friend gave to me. I just don't care for those balls.

In the same boat in that I've fired Titleist because $60 is way too much for a dozen balls IMO. I've found Vice Pro & Pro Plus and haven't looked back. They give me everything that the $60 balls give me but they're roughly half as much. I'm a +1 and can't tell the difference on the course. YMMV.

Definitely a better voice for Vice than me. The only time I’ve ever been a +1 is when I’ve been invited along…
