I can relate to the old car that is worth WAY more than anyone would pay for it. We have a 2001 GMC Yukon that only has 110,000 miles on it. With 3 kids and 2 labs, it was our family truckster, but only taken on a couple of longer road trips. It’s been garage kept and very well maintained, and the 5.3L Vortec engine is a known workhorse. We had the seat cushions replaced and re-covered and I replaced the radio/cassette/CD with a Bluetooth unit that has wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, while also adding a backup camera. It should easily go another 100k+ miles, but if it’s ever in an accident, I can’t imagine I’d get very much for it.

Is your Yukon Tahoe-sized or Suburban sized?  Me and Mrs. Goose are hoping for a 2nd kid and we have a big Lab to tote around for weekend trips. We're on the fence about going for the full size if we can manage the Tahoe equivalent.

Ours is a Yukon XL, so I’d say Suburban sized. We’ve loved ours - full seating for 7 without compromising hauling space (which is where the labs rode). It also gives you the bonus of separating the kids when necessary. 🙂 Our daughter usually enjoyed the 3rd row bench to herself while the boys battled in the 2nd row bucket seats.
 

Now that it’s just me and the Mrs., we remove the 3rd row bench seat for road trips, giving us ample space for bringing whatever we want. Sadly, no dogs any longer.

 

Assuming you’ll end up hauling your kids and their friends to all kinds of events, many of which will include hauling equipment, I’d go for the full size if you can swing it.

And that cargo bay will give you plenty of room to bring your sticks on road trips!
