Calling all Strippers…

I have pictured a see more putter that was not dinged up, but the black finish was really chipped and worn. I thought I’d sandblast the rest of the black finish off, but ran into this. Some of the black finish absolutely would not come off (as pictured).

I tried paint stripper as well blasting with silica sand. Any other ideas? The putter is in fabulous shape other than the partial black finish.

I’d go in there with a Drexel and a high grit polishing tip and get that out. With it being exposed to paint thinner should have weaken it and should come off somewhat easily.

What paint stripper did you use? I recall from my classic auto days something called “aircraft remover” is more potent than regular stripper.

Dremel with wire wheel. Shouldn't take long and won't remove any metal.

I wouldn’t go first to a wire wheel or a polishing tip, it will scratch. You could try acetone , that works well on a variety of finishes. If not , the aircraft stripper.

How long did you leave the paint stripper on? Sometimes it can take a while. I'd apply the stripper, wait 20 minutes, apply more stripper, repeat. If nothing happens in an hour, it probably ain't coming off.

If it's powder coated, there might not be an easy way to get it off.
