Mizuno Pro 221 vs MP-20 vs MP-5

Ok so I know it’s splitting hairs but has anyone tried the 3 of these iron sets? I have played just about every Mizuno blade from the MP-32 to the new MP-221 and always find myself missing my MP-5s. I know they were special and didn’t really classify as a blade but dang they were easy to hit. I played a combo set with the MP20 HMB and blades in 7-pw. I’ve also had a full set of 221s. To me the 221s are probably the most punishing blade of the 3. I also felt that the MP20s were almost as forgiving as the MP5s but looked so much better. Just wondering if anyone else has similar feelings? Another thought I had was, does mizuno make every other blade line slightly more forgiving? MP-4 not forgiving, MP-5 forgiving, MP-18 not so forgiving, MP-20 somewhat forgiving, MP-221 beautiful but not very forgiving? Let me know your thoughts!

I thought 221 was pretty darn forgiving. mp5 are nice irons. 9 and P are fugly as anything but overall great set. I think on monitor with a good data set each you’d be splitting hairs.

I totally agree with the MP5 9 and pw being fugly! I think Mizuno finally fixed that problem in the mp18. I have a chance to get a whole set MP20s and strongly considering it. I just couldn’t get along with the 221s for some reason.

20s are wonderful clubs. Wouldn’t hesitate.

Interesting you find the 221 the most punishing. I hit them once at PGASS and loved them but it was one of those days when my swing was rocking. I haven’t really kept up with the reviews of the 221s because I don’t want to be tempted. 
 

I currently own MP4s and MP32s. A buddy has MP20s so I hit them frequently. 
 

My guess is Mizuno makes subtle adjustments to the blade with every release. Those adjustments work for some and don’t for others. When it works it makes the iron seem so much more forgiving than the prior generation. 
 

Of the MPs that I have considerable time with, I’d rank them like so in terms of decreasing forgiveness: MP20–>MP32–>MP4. But like you said, it’s splitting hairs.

I've owned and played all 3 sets.  I never really liked the larger looking size of the 5's and always felt the 20's were on the firm side and a thick top line.  So that leaves the 221's which seem about as close to the old MP 33's as they could get, which are my all time favorites. I don't know how they can improve on the 221's from looks and feel.  Just my opinion.  The MP-4 as mentioned above would be in my top 3 from Mizuno.

I think my decision is made. Going to grab a set of MP 20s and shaft them up with some modus 125x and BB&F ferrules!

I second the 20s for best overall. I'm a big fan of the 5s for forgiveness purposes but don't like the short irons. A dream set would be 4-6 iron in mp5 and 7-pw mp20s or mp4s. But the 20s have copper and would prob win out over the 4s....221s are low launching butter knifes.

Man I moved from 4s to 223s and even though I am hitting it purer than ever the 20s are the one club that have calling to me for years

I love my 20's for what it's worth. They're not going anywhere anytime soon

Also the 20’s short irons look waayyyyy better then the 4’s
