Hit my irons much further than driver in relation.

Recommended Posts

For example I hit my 7i about 165-170 carry, but my driver carry seems to max out at 240 carry. I barely get any roll so I’m guessing I’m spinning my driver too much. I swing neutral to up with my driver, but I’ve seemed to have lost a good amount of distance with it while I’ve gained distance with my irons. I know it’s tough to tell without seeing my swing, but is it a shaft issue? Need to tweak my driver swing?

Those seem comparable depending on the loft of the 7 iron. Would need to see driver numbers.

Most likely it’s strike location combined with how you deliver the club face. Use one of the methods to check feedback on impact location on driver face.

Some people have hard time with driver swing vs everything else. Ball is high up on tee and u are not contacting ground with the club. I was in a similar spot as i hit my irons better in general than driver. Had to really work on driver swing for a few years to get the distance I should have been. Ball position and tee height are big ones, as well as stance. I was playing the ball too far forward and teeing it too high which led to all sorts of inconsistencies. I used to also have my feet much farther apart with driver which limited my natural rotation and caused me to change my delivery. If this sounds like anything u r doing, do some trial and error with ball position and tee height to see what happens.

Increasing speed and still finding fairways can be an extensive endeavor, take the low hanging fruit first. Because its so easy to confirm , i would establish impact on the face and club speeds.  If your getting 240 with excessive spin, then  ideal smash, spin and ball will get you another 20-50 yards. Get some launch data if available, you don’t have to grope in the dark.

Easy there big guy. :classic_wink:

"Maxing out" at 240 suggests center strikes. So, very close to "ideal smash".

Reducing spin on those strikes, from 3500 to 2500 rpm, will NOT produce another 20-50 yards. About 6 yards carry and 9 yards total, but that's about it.

Read original post, not others.  Still dont know CHS.   OP said 240 barely any roll, so excessive spin and/ or height. Pretty sure i said IDEAL NUMBERS, which requires fitted ball.  Anyways,  150 ballspeed at 0* will get you to 270 total.  7 iron distance is mediocre, I would make the effort on the tee box so I could use two less clubs on approach.  Also Learn how to swing a scoring iron and your using 3-4 less club.  Doesn’t matter to me, just please use correct tee box.  Red tees are for people that are dedicated pickle ball players.

I did read the op. He said his "driver carry seems to max out at 240". If that's off the bottom of the driver then he never hits the center. Ergo, I am suggesting those (maxed out) 240 carries are from center strikes and therefore have a very good smash factor.

But yes, excessive spin and if the ball isn't rolling anywhere it also suggests a soft to medium surface.

I recognize these numbers, most especially the spin rate, because they're exactly where I was some 20 years ago from poor mechanics. But my results were not from low strikes, they were from center strikes.

So I believe my "assumption" of 240 max center strikes is reasonable and therefore 1,000 less spin will not increase his drives from 20-50 yards. 1,000 less spin will increase his carry by about 5 yards.

The other 15-45 yards could only come by landing on a fairway roughly equivalent to the near interstate, certainly not soft or medium. :classic_wink:

Just use the data, AOA, loft and the right ball. Rollout isn’t a conspiracy theory.

It is here except during drought conditions lol. One rainstorm here and i literally lost 50 yards from last week. OP was talking about 240 being his max carry. If he's hitting big balloons, better impact conditions and/or hear hear could push his carry up a good bit and potential roll.

Ahhhhh, angle of attack. I was wondering what that 0* was.

Anyway, who SAID it was a conspiracy theory ?

When I hit my drives with similar numbers in the northeast during a hot summer, even *I* got some decent rollout.

When I hit those same drives down in sand-based Florida, I got bupkis. My ball marks from my drives were right next to my ball.

So tell me then, how was the turf when Trackman got those numbers ?

How about when the OP made his observations ?

Right. I don't know either. :classic_wink:

Trackman alternates the conditions between Baked clay and wet sponge so that all of their data is useless for optimization.  Good news is, you two can hold greens on long par 3’s with your drives.

Yeah, that’s what trackman and Tom Wishon do, present useless information so that people can’t improve.  The only thing that has been exposed is that you are useless and clueless.   “Your ball plugs and its not your fault”, feel better?
