Wild front 9!

Played 18 with some buddies after work yesterday and had an absolutely wild front 9.  Anyone ever done this.....?

1. Par 5 - NIce drive straight down the middle.  4iron to just short of the green, chipped to 3 feet, easy putt. - Birdie

2.Par 4 - regulation drive, 7 iron, 2 putt - Par

3.Par 3 - Pulled my 6iron, short sided with bunker between myself and green, chipped on, 15 feet 2 putt - Bogie

4. Par 4 - Thinned a 3 wood about 200 yards, topped a hybrid to 40 yards short of green, thinned my wedge off the back, chipped on and 2 putted - Double bogie (see where this is going yet?)

5. Par 3 - Lasered the flag, misread what i said. Overshot the green into the s***, assumed (later confirmed) lost ball.  Reloaded, short, chipp and 2 putt. - Triple bogie

6. Par 4 - Pulled drive 10 yards into the trees.  Punched out, but caught a very low branch so didnt make out to fairway. Tried to draw around overhanging branches, didnt get the draw, 50 yard pitch from rough, left myself 25 feet downhill, 2 putt - Double bogie (thank god it wasnt a quad!)

7. Par 4 - Decent drive down the middle, 8 iron approach landed 2 yards short of my target on the downslope, shooting ball through the back of the green.  Chip back to the pin, lipped out from 5 feet. - Bogie

8. Par 4 - Regulation drive, over the corner of a dogleg, which then runs down to the hole.   45 yards to pin, didnt make the 5 footer. - Par

9. Par 5 - Smashed a drive down the middle, 4 iron got me greenside, easy chip to 10 inches, tap in bird to complete the most ridiculous 9 holes. - Birdie!

While 4, 5 and 6 was some horrendous golf, this feels like one of my greatest accomplishments in golf! The pressure on the birdie putt on the 9th was huge.  The back 9 was a boring mix of pars with a couple of doubles thrown in.

Several years back, I was playing in the first round of the Senior Championship for the area Amateur circuit.

It was a quaint course, par 34 + 34 = 68.

Front nine: Had 2 birdies and 6 bogies, and a double bogie for 40, and a 44 on the back nine for 84.

The next day, in round 2, I had an allergy attack in early holes and had to withdraw from tournament after nine.

I had a similar round several weeks back.

3 over front 9.

Fell apart on the back getting into trouble and shot 15 over…

Its golf tho right?

Infuriating, addictive, love/hate relationship at times.  I dont think i will ever shoot that sequence of bird/par/bogie/ dbl/triple/dbl/bogie/par/birdie again, but the volatility continues for me.  Thursday i shot 97 at my home course, literally felt like my first time playing, not sure what was wrong but could not hit anything solid, every miss in the bag came out multiple times.  2 days later shot 82 around the same course.

Wouldn't be fun if we were 'good' all the time, right?  Right??

Yes it would be!

Sadly here lately I’m scoring better on the harder courses and worse by a margin on the easier…

I can relate to this.  Typical round for me, full of ups/downs, highs/lows, great shots/terrible shots.  It is what it is and I'm fine with that.  How about what I did one time where I shot 76 one day, then on the same course, two days later, shoot a 94?

Current set lineup:  Left Handed

Driver--Callaway Epic Speed w/Project X Hzrdus Smoke "R" Flex

5 Wood--Ping G425 Max w/Alta CB65 "R" Flex

Hybrid--Titleist 818 H1 in 23* w/Tensei shaft, "R" Flex

Irons 6-PW--Callaway RazrX w/steel Uniflex-- shafts

F2 Series Gap Wedge 52* degree

SW-Cleveland CBX 56*

Putter--Odyssey White Steel

Ball-Srixon or Bridgestone E6
