There's another for $1000 obo then the others are on auction but I suspect will sell for $400+

Not a fan of the Jailbird look, but I'm excited to rejoin the Odyssey family with a Tour Lined Eleven. Can't deny Odyssey has been killing it on Tour.

I ordered a Versa 7 S last week too so I should be well stocked until the Jailbird comes. Ordered both of those after I posted how I always end up hating mallets but try one every few years regardless. Pretty classic GolfWRX behavior

I did not get the new jail bird but I was able to get a really similar build - a pxg one and done with heavy head, the Tour 3.0 17" grip. Overall it really does a good job in my opinion as being really close to what Rickie games. Only difference is his shaft is heavier so overall his putter is probably 30g heavier. If there was a straight Tank shaft out there... Let me know. 

 

 

I'm recording my journey with this set up, as I've been in a traditional small blade and pistol grip for years. Check out my data driven results... Maybe this can be helpful.

I would have tried one of these but I missed the preorder window. At any rate I decided to go back to trying an Odyssey 2 Ball OG Stroke Lab. So far my last few rounds I've dropped around 2 strokes putting. The only reason I quip in this thread is because I wonder if these hyped putters are largely due to making the majority of the putter head an alignment aid. I know I feel way more confident on my start line with the 2 ball which that alone is worth alot.

I made a poor man's jailbird for the fun of it. Odyssey White Hot OG 7Bird with a layer of lead tape. Had a good time putting the tape on. 2g/in for a rough total of 36g added. Feels good. Don't think I'll use it but it was fun to fawk around.

I wanted to try the counter balance putter out so I hit up my local 2nd swing. I ended up grabbing a Ping Sigma G Doon 38" and an old Cleveland Answer style 39" belly putter, both with 400g heads. All in I was out the door for just over $200. So far I'm enjoying both, but the Cleveland, which was like $60 bucks. I don't know if I'll try a Jailbird, but there does seem to be some magic with this CB stuff.

Great deal!  Yep, CB style putting works really well for some.  I couldn’t imagine going back to a conventional stroke anymore.  Good luck on your new adventure👍

i did just receive my superstroke flatso 17 grip yesterday and a 32" jailbird is sitting on my porch waiting to be extended.... silly question, if i use an old shaft and stick it down in the jailbird until i get to 37-38" and chop off the rest. would that assist in counterbalancing? also, how do i weigh the head with shaft installed?

Of course I am loving the 7 s and the Scotty Newport is out of the bag. I was really hoping to hate it so I could send it back and not have to compare it with the Jailbird when it comes. Versa for sure helps my alignment and that fang style is my favorite mallet I've ever used.

I just did it to my odyssey 7 protype while I wait for my Jailbird. It’s a prototype so I don’t know what the head weight is.
 

I extended it to 38”. I added 20 grams to the head though  a sole weight change. I added a 30g counterweight to the butt end of the extension.  I got it on Amazon for like $7. I couldn’t find any specs to indicate the jailbirds have extra counterbalancing or not. The 30gram weight, the weight of the shaft extension and the extra butt length gives my putter a fair amount of counterbalancing. But not out of line with what I’ve seen.

To answer your question the extra shaft length alone will counterbalance the club provided you grip down on it.  If you don’t grip down it has the opposite effect. It makes the head feel heavier. I think The added weight of the extension will also counterbalance it a bit, but not as much as a buttweight. Counterbalancing is a proportional to distance away from the fulcrum which is a few inches below where your hands grip the club. The buttweight is as far away as you can get from it. 

 

I put the 17 inch flatso on because that’s Al they had in stock. 
 

if feels and swings great. I grip down to make it play about 35”. I may add some lead tape but I’ll see how it goes without. Feels good now. 
 

I’m not a huge fan of the grip. Its quite big and oddly shaped in the hands looks a bit ridiculous. I may try an XL superstroke grip instead. They are 13.75 inches and come in more options. They also come with the weight port for counterbalancing.  3+ inches longer than a standard grip which is long enough to grip down 3 inches.
