Nothing but toe strikes on bad days, but why?...

Recommended Posts

I plan on asking my instructor a similar question in a few days so not necessarily looking for a full solution as much as a discussion of the golf swing in general and what might cause my toe strikes. I'm usually quite good at picking apart my swing but I don't see a smoking gun for why I can have a tendency to hit it on the toe nearly 100% of the time on my worse days, and increasing my knowledge here sounds fun.

I had this problem maybe a year ago, but that was due to coming far from the inside, and right now my path is quite neutral. I don't see much handle raising or early extension (I think), so I'm just kind of at a loss.

Toe strikes are pretty pervasive through the bag from small partial wedge shots all the way to driver. What's the fundamental problem motion? Any thoughts or discussion are welcomed

You’re falling away from the ball before rotating. Zoom your eyes out and you can see your center of mass move away from ball. Nothing inherently wrong with that but you’re effectively moving your swing arc and sweet spot. Maybe think about keeping your butt on the wall and not pushing back through the wall.

someone smarter than me will be able to see if that’s a root cause or symptom of something else.

PS- details on the hat?

When you say before rotating do you mean right in transition?

Re: hat.. I may not look it in the video but I'm 6'4" with a giant head and this was the only brimmed hat I ever found that fit me. Looks like where I bought it doesn't sell it anymore, but here it is on a different site https://setartrading.com/collections/dpc-outdoor-design/products/dpc-global-soaker-hat. I love it on really hot days, keeps the sweat out of my eyes well

to my amateur eye it looks like it’s either at the end of your backswing or right before or at the start of transition. I suspect it’s a symptom of something else- but I’m too dumb to see what that would be.

Could just be the camera moving, look at the trees in the background.

Was smacking them off the toe yesterday when I was warming up again, but decided to stop trying to change the swing and just stood a good bit closer to the ball and a bit more upright. Couldn't miss it on the course after I decided to do that so maybe I just try to stand too far away from the ball for somebody who is 6'4". If you look at Tony Finau or Jon Rahm or even Tiger who is 6'1", they all seem to stand quite a bit closer to the ball than me..

Maybe its just that simple!
