I always avoided Titleist stuff because I assumed  their clubs were very difficult to hit and  must have a sweet spot the size of an ink-pen head, only for the elite, best of the best golfers.  Recently, however, I got my hands on a 818 H1 Hybrid and have loved it from the start, very clean, easy to hit club.  Even as an "average" shooting in the 80s kind of golfer, I've probably missed out on some great clubs.

I guess if we really think about it, no matter if it's blades, game improvements, or everything in between, it's just a chunk of steel on the end of a stick and many of us tend to just over-think it..

This doesn't get a lot of play but OEM's strive for an identity on feel of gear. Titleist for a long time was somewhat old school on how they build their clubs. They were heavy & clicky. Put  a 681, (factory spec) iron in hand that thing resembled something from 1977 in weighting & feel. The grips on those weigh like 70g. I happen to like that.

Pings were at one time building everything lighter to C9 SW. I don't like it. Mizuno has flatter lies, softer heads and more middling weight. Don't care for it. Cannot figure out Callaway, people rave, I try them, big whoop. To each his own and what one is used to.

How irons are configured  by weight, SW, shaft flex, lengths means way more to shrinking wear spot than the MOI of head. Blades are a great canvass if you believe in that. Obvious that I do.

That is exactly, the people talking smack see 3-4 woods and or a few hybrids and think they aren't good enough to play long irons.

Nevermind the fact that most have them because they lack the swing speed to play long irons or hit the ball too low to play them, not because they can't hit the sweet spot.

Correct.
As my SS had declined I can’t get the ball in the air, so 4 FW’s, 2 Hybrids , start my irons at #8.

Only had one smack talk as I recall.  Par 3 120 yards into a 2 1/2 club wind, knocked down a 30* to 3’, the other 3 missed the green wildly. One of them said “that’s a great shot, even if it was a hybrid”.
come to think of it, he’s made a similar comment on other occasions. 🤷🏼‍♂️

The only shaming I have seen at my club are the younger guys getting shamed for have 4+ headcovers in their bag, or older guys having 5+ headcovers in their bag, it's not shaming as much as it is a good natured ribbing.

Agree. Probably just good-natured ribbing.

Methinks though, they've never played with @Obee :classic_laugh:

From my own experience, loft is your friend. For me longer irons with a bit of junk in the trunk have been easier to launch. I have, however, never seen any decent longer iron blade users in the above 2 handicap category in my lifetime.

Even I have to nod to that. The 3-4 Irons in the new set are Cavity Backs.

Imagine competing with someone who keeps beating you and thinking, 'it's alright, I got beat by someone who doesn't really deserve the score he posted because of the clubs he uses.'

Talk about mental gymnastics and ego!

Let me know when they start determining who wins based on equipment, hahaha.

Then again, that's probably par for the course when your avatar reads Blades are Life, LOL.

I don't understand why you are so extraordinarily sensitive about this when you (half) play blades yourself. Is it because you feel self-conscious about going super ez mode in the mid-long irons rather than a more elegant blend like the ZX7?

First, play what you want I could care less, if you like it you like it, we're all individuals.

My only 'shaming' is when a person tries to say something that contrary to the overall data out there, and that's probably the engineer in me. It's fine if you're an outlier and hit MBs more consistent than a GI iron, but one data point doesn't override 99 others that say the opposite.

My line of thinking is to play with what helps me the most. My strike pattern is not consistent enough to play a MB design and get better results then a tech filled iron that will allow a mishit to still fly.

For golf, a problem with relying on data is that the game has so many nuances which data is unable to properly factor. For example, the wide range of lie types, weather conditions, players mental state at a particular moment etc...

No data will ever tell you "You will never hit Club 'x' well."

Data simply tells you "You did not hit Club 'x' well overall in this sample, but here is the data of all shots taken."

You then take said data, compare the good and bad shots, and then determine what produced good and bad shots by interpreting the data in conjunction with your process.

What I struggle to understand is how people can prattle on about being tough, having thick skin, and whole host of other related subjects...... and then criticize somebody else for not giving up.

I mean seriously........ LOL
