Help Planning A Golf Trip

Recommended Posts

Hello, my wife and I wants to go either to florida or arizona, we don't have a preference where and we don't know anything either place

What would be ideal, is a resort or hotel with (we don't want to rent a car, we would like every close by or in the resort if possible)
more than 1 restaurant in the hotel or a few restaurant really close by that we could easily walk
1-2 golf course nearby or directly on the resort
2 rounds of golf included in the staying
a nice spa with sauna etc
and if it's in florida, we would like to be near a beach or not too far from it.

Does anyone know a place like this that would be affordable with a budget of 2000$ USD for 4-5 nights, 2 rounds of golf? (excluding the flight, food and drink, that will be on a seperate budget)

From a price standpoint, it’s really going to depending on when you plan to go.

I’m sure others will be more helpful but for Florida check out Reunion Resort. 3 courses, restaurants, spa (if I recall) and a nice resort style pool. Downside it’s not close to the beach. If you want something beachfront check out Omni Amelia island. Nice resort directly on the beach with 2 golf courses. Both of these resorts will offer stay and play packages.

In AZ there will be a lot of options that would fit your needs, but I can’t say about budget. JW Marriott Desert Ridge and Camelback are very nice. Whirlwind offers stay and play packages in connection to the hotel/casino nearby. Talking stick has 2 courses associated with their casino/hotel.

You may have better luck posing this in the southwest and Florida forums asking them as separate questions.

Second Omni Amelia Island. Sounds exactly what you are looking for.

In Florida if you want to be near a beach, don't consider Reunion. I'd suggest the following:

Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Coast - Two Nicklaus courses. One good one really good: Hammock Beach Resort

PGA National in Palm Beach - Six good courses each by a different architect - PGA National

Omni Amelia Island Resort - Three courses including a Pete Dye and a Tom Fazio  Omni Amelia Island

In Arizona, If the resort is more important than the golf I'd stay at either the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess or the Phoenician. They are two of the nicest resorts you can visit anywhere. The downside is that they are expensive and their on site golf is not the the best in the area (The Princess has the two TPC courses which are good but very over priced and the Phoenician has its own course holes that's  okay, but not a world beater). The upside is that there are so many golf courses in the area it's just a short Uber Ride to better golf courses  Scottsdale Princess     The Pheonician.

The Boulders has a good balance between beautiful resort and good golf, with two very fun courses on site: The Boulders

If you want a nice resort that is less expensive, but has the two best golf courses, albeit less luxurious than the others mentioned above, I'd stay and play at We-Ko-Pa. We-Ko-Pa Golf   We-Ko-Pa Resort & Casino

I've done all of these trips and had a nice visit to each, but the quality golf vs resort luxury ratio differs from place.

I stayed at Kierland Resort and the Legacy Resort once each. The golf is nothing special (similar to the Phoenician), but these resorts, though nice, are not in the same league as the Phoenician or the Princess (but less expensive).

Good luck in the planning and have fun.

Highly recommend the Pheonecian.  Great steakhouse and more casual dining.  Great bar for drinks on the patio. Seperate Spa area and own pool.  Golf course on site that is a fun course.

For Florida, I would recommend the Ritz Amelia Island.  Quirky course, but amazing hotel and food.  Great Spa.  IF you wanted a different course, could play Omni course a half mile down the road.  At one point, the ritz offered free daily rentals/borrows of BMW or Mercedes cars for guests.  You can set up hotel pick up with the resort.

Sandestin, in Destin, FL on the panhandle would a good option as well. Many golf courses to choose from , great resort, and lots of restaurants and bars at the wharf.

Longboat Key Resort is worth checking into. It is oceanside, has 45 holes and a spa plus restaurants and beach service. You're a couple miles from St. Armand's Circle which has tons of shopping and dining. It's very classy but relatively affordable.

I don't hate this Boulders recommendation. 36 holes ... interesting scenery and up in the altitude a bit. Lots of walking trails on site ... can hike up the Boulders a bit. I really like the Spotted Donkey Mexican restaurant on site. The hotel restaurant was decent. Plenty luxurious but not opulent. Casitas right on one of the courses. Not as much of a sprawling resort. Feels a bit more secluded and quiet? Low key? One thing I'm not certain of is the spa services ... didn't use them.

This would likely feel less bustling and more away from it all. Depends just what you're looking for ... we kinda like being away from Scottsdale rather than in the heart of it.
