I’ve had the 19* and 23* since they were released. Swing speed is down and hcp up since then, everything else has been changed several times. Looking at new ping 430 or Callaway rogue max st.  Both seem longer and more forgiving on driving range. Any help is appreciated!  Thanks

I still have my 818 H1 in the bag, I did hit several other hybrids and I also have a Cally Superhybrid at home, but none of these could make the 818 go away.

But I have to confess that I am not a very good hybrid player. I prefer the utility iron and play the hybrid more on difficould lies

Not sure if the 816 has a titanium face but that is a newish thing from 2018-on. Also variable thickness faces in whatever marketing-speak from each OEM calls them. Callaway's jailbreak bars/batwings extended into all woods/hybrids now from them which is probably the biggest advancement since 2016 in hybrids. And generally speaking every OEM has figured out how to lower the sweet spot and raise MOI with shallower faces which is why many players still use 816/818 woods/hybrids for instance for Titleist staffers - because if you hit higher up in the face you'll want to keep them.

I feel like the older hybrids like the Titleist 816/818h, Adams Pro Mini, Taylormade Rescue, all were great in replacing irons, hitting a slightly higher flight than an iron, and going a consistent said distance.  Many of the newer hybrids are better at flying higher, lower spin, higher ball speeds, but not as good at hitting said distances consistently

if distance control is a must, the old greats are better IMHO, if distance is king, any newer OEM will be best.

what are the goals you want to achieve with the hybrids?

Seems like a 23° hybrid is replacing a 3/4iron, while a 19° is often just a club to get it out there as long as possible off the tee or fairway for most people.

What is your set up at the top of the bag?

I used to carry a 23° Adams Super 9031/Pro Mini hybrid to replace an iron, and an 18° Callaway Apex (2016) hybrid to poke it out there as long as possible off the tee. I ended up selling the Apex Hybrid and went with a 16° Tour Edge CBX119 hybrid that was a basically filling a 4 wood slot off the tee.

I now carry a 5&7 wood instead

A modern 7w may be worth a look!

I agree with your CG location comment. This is why you see old hybrids, like Adams or the 816/818 still out there on tour.

For what the OP is looking for, a newer model would be an upgrade over the 816.

No matter what you select it sounds like changing your shafts to something easier to swing for you is likely the answer. I went from TS2s to Cleveland XLs to the Ping G430 line..I’m not looking back now as I love the Pings

Titleist TSR2 9*

Ping G430 3w & 5w

Ping   22* & 26* G430 Hybrids

Srixon ZX5 6i-PW, CBX Zipcore 48*,  54* & 58*

Odyssey Ai-ONE Rossie S

Srixon Z-Star

Shotscope X5

Ping Hoofer 14 Way

QOD Motorized Pushcart & Clicgear Model 8

Huge fan of 816 and then moved on to 818.  They are still amazing hybrids. I never got along with the TS or TSi hybrids because in my opinion they were too big of a change.  Take a look at the TSR1.  Far and away the most forgiving hybrid ive ever owned.  Great shape, very good off a tee and off the deck.  The shaping of the face reminds me alot of the 816 H2

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
