Custom putter build

Why is it so hard to find CAD files to build a putter?  I have access to SS and a cnc machine but cannot find any type of putter design file ANYWHERE!  That’s not true I found something on a site called “thangs” but it won’t work.

 

I know there’s been similar topics discussed where replies have said “there should be something online you could find” etc but like I said, I can’t find anything.   Does anyone have an idea of where I can find a blueprint file so I can get my damn putter built lol.  Thanks guys.

Likely those who invest time designing putters don't want to then give the design away for free... Maybe someone who has a design would be willing to sell you their design file for a one time use kind of thing.

 

I know the custom builders also spend a lot of time and money making fixtures for their machines to hold the work piece in various positions throughout the machining process, if you want the neck to be one piece with the putter head that adds a great deal of difficulty to the machining process. If the neck is to be welded on, I think you can mill most of the head from a block, but still need a fixture to then hold the machined side when you flip the work piece and mill off the excess and mill the face (loft) .

 

The old saying, "if you are good at something, don't do it for free" comes to mind.

What type of putter design are you looking for? A classic anser style or more of a fang or mallet? Also, what neck options are you considering?

Yes a classic Anser style with a plumbers neck.

Ya that’s the only one I’ve found.  Didn’t know I could edit it and prob wouldn’t know anyways.

Myself and it seems a few others on here can design in CAD.  But as said above, custom design work, like machining or anything else, is usually not for free, unless you can DIY.

Every time I’ve posted a photo of a putter I’ve made at least a handful of people ask if they can have the file for free.  
 

You say you have access to a CNC machine but I’m guessing you won’t be the one operating it.   Anyone operating a CNC and generating the CAM would also know CAD.  I’m sure you could ask them to do it m, but guessing they would charge you as well.

Yup you nailed it, it’s my brother in law and he will be charging.  I was honestly just being hopeful something had leaked online like everything else these days ha.  Thanks everyone for the replies!

When I wanted a custom putter I drew it up in CAD - it's not an especially hard task once you're used to the software. Coming up with a design that works is another story, and nailing weight placement takes some skill.

 

I would encourage you to try your hand at some CAD work.

Even if you get a file you'll still have to set it up on the CNC so it can actually cut it out without crashing the tooling into the block.
