Thinner sole Player Distance Irons recommendations

Looking for a little more distance and forgiveness but prefer thinner sole irons with less bounce.  Any recommendations?

T100s or ZX7 for a players cb with a thinner sole although ZX7s would probably have too much bounce.

Then getting into distance irons, wouldn't exactly call any of these thinned soled but this is the order I liked them in fwiw;

Rogue ST Pro

Forged Tec (specifically '22 model)

T200

P770

Pro225

Hit the suggestions above this morning. Like the t100s the best of above options but like the cb iron more. Just not a huge difference than my MP20MB irons. Decided to keep irons and put in a matching 5 hybrid

I will hit the new mizuno blade this winter  to compare but not sure it’ll be much better.

I have recently gone through this experiment. For reference +2 handicap but don't get time to practice. I have played PXG Gen 1 and Gen 4 0311P's for the last 5 years. Very forgiving for not having to regularly practice. However, like you have stated the allure to go back to something smaller but still in the players distance iron category was very appealing to me. At this stage I am willing to give up a little feel for forgiveness and distance. I am not willing to go back to a normal iron. The reality is you have to compromise somewhere though with a players distance iron. Over the last few weeks I have done extensive testing with the following Ping i525, Ping i230, Taylormade 770, Taylormade 790, Callaway Apex Pro 21, Titleist T150 and Titleist T200 2023. All of these irons in my opinion are phenomenal with each having pros and cons. I legit could play any of them but I did find a clear winner at this point for what I was looking for which is similar to your stated question of thinner sole/profile. Quick breakdown:

Ping i525 - Very forgiving, loved the look at address, peak height and distance amazing. The sacrifice clicky.

Ping i230 - Less forgiving then the i525, much lower flight and distance. Awesome feeling though.

Taylormade 770 - A little less forgiving then the i525 but on par with the i230, compact head but just not as clean a shape as I would like. I preferred the i230 vs. the 770.

Taylormade 790 - Very similar to the Ping to be honest but I prefer the Ping head shape but have always liked Ping head shape. Had a little better feeling then the Ping but I would chose the i525 over it based on address position.

Callaway Apex Pro 21 - The same as Ping i525 but a little shorter and a little better feel. Really liked it.

Titleist 150 - The all arounder from everything mentioned above. A little shorter then the i525 and P790 but best feeling overall with just a little less distance. Distance between it and the Apex Pro 21 was similar. Produced ideal spin rates with still getting distance. This had the closest feel to a PXG forged in my opinion, but more workable and thinner sole and profile.

Titleist T200 - Kind of similar feel to Apex Pro 21. It was long and forgiving for the head size but a little thicker sole. Awesome in a longer iron.

I went with a combo set of T200 (5) and T150 (6-PW) as the best overall option for thinner sole and to replace my PXG's.

T100S is a legend for this. IMO ZX7 cut it too close with their V-Sole on a sole that already started thin. However the ZX5's perform some magic by having a deep sole which allows more perimeter weighting, and the V-Sole in this case makes it setup more like a thinner (but not too thin) soled iron

what do you think of the sole on the 223?

only demo'd them once and it was a while ago. iirc not for me, i just recall not liking the wedge/short irons ... too compact a blade length look out of place with rest of the set, and a thicker, bouncy sole

The one comment I can add is the thicker soles didn’t allow me the crisper turf interaction of a blade through impact; sure the results were good,  but the blade was more precise. This is my main goal and distance control. More forgiving would be great but won’t give up the first two components for it.

Agree the the 5's have some magic but the sole was too wide for me off tight fairways, everything else they're brilliant.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
