WHY?!?! Hands so far out. Address vs. impact.

Recommended Posts

The energy is flowing away from you and into the clubhead which is where you want it.

Whirling a ball on a string pulls the string into extension (no slack) around the resisting hand, whirling the clubhead around the resisting C7 pulls the arms into extension just after impact when both arms are straight.

I took lessons from Mike Austin and Mike Dunaway, their clubs released around the end of their left arms at the same place relative to their body position regardless of the club they were swinging.

As the clubs get shorter, the ball is played progressively back causing impact to occur earlier in the arc. They made adjustments in their set up and hit straight balls.

How does that relate to my EE?

Being too close will force you into EE to create room to hit the ball.  Also, the closer you are, the more vertical the arc.  The more vertical the arc, the more your body will EE to flatten it.

His post actually was pretty straightforward .

During the swing C7 ( cervical vertebrae that is closest to the base of the spine) is very stable . As the arms are rotating with the torso on the downswing , they will gradually extend and become straight just past impact .
How this specifically applies to the original post is another question .

Your last sentence is the problem with that post - Monte managed to give the best advice in this post in 10 words or less.  Typing the most words doesn't make you the smartest in the room.

I read Zitlows post as "OP's swing is WAD  (working as designed)  / properly as far as balancing all the parts.

I.e. ya, maybe everything IS moving *towards* the ball, but if you can do it every time ... and are shooting in the 70's .... why try to fix what ain't broken ?

Gettting the club on the ball is the objective,  not how "pretty you look"

Not sure why c7 is worth fixating on. You should hope your spine is stable or your spinal cord won’t be very happy.

Because I miss to many greens. Especially with short irons. If I could hit two to three more greens I could drop more strokes.

Sometimes the handle gets even more vertical and I actually lose my grip.

You'll need to turn and drive(rotate) your hands back closer to set up/impact position. For me the timing of starting my downswing with my hands on the swing plane, then quickly driving my lead arm towards set up/impact position while my right hands has the felling of controlling the turn and keeping my club face on the swing plane gives me my best consistency.

I dont think the setup is excessively over your toes. The problem is u are doing something else in the backswing or in sequence that is causing the EE correction. You need to post down the line and face on videos for me or the others to really make suggestions.

I do agree with u the handle is raised quite a bit and u are moving your hips towards the ball too much, but i would wait to do any corrections, especially lower body ones, before we see video.

Everything in your lower half is moving out towards the ball

⬆️ as well as setting up with too much weight on your toes could be contributing. Here is an illustration of Robert Rock as an example of setup and impact. He has some EE but not the handle issue your having
