Titleist “secret” golf ball

Saw a post on Instagram about Titleist making a “secret golf ball” for 2024. Some speculation it’s either a modified left dot, or a new Left dash, but my money is on the USGA conforming distance roll back ball.
Anyone have any insight or opinion they’re willing to share?

It’s on a popular page that regularly does “unbiased” equipment testing. They’ve done a ball test in the past that is pretty informative. I mentioned their name earlier and my post got deleted.

You should do some research before making statements like that. Especially with their golfball claims.

Considering that website does like to do some click-baity things, I'm going to guess that the "secret" ball is the new AVX which is due for a refresh for 2024.

Yeah the “secret” label is used pretty liberally considering they do this exact thing every new model of the Prov1 and X with the testing. However with the Prov1 and Prov1X new this year, and the AVX a rather unpopular model (at least in the circles I’ve been in) one would question if they’re even keeping it in the lineup.

There have been threads speculating that the AVX is going away for a few years now but Titleist keeps refreshing it and even somewhat recently introduced an RCT AVX for launch monitors.

Good point. I guess I’m just surprised it’s stuck around as long as it has. Low launch and low spin but very soft, just a very niche market ball for a small group of players. Can’t think of the last time I’ve ever played with someone who used one.

I find AVXs in the wild all the time on my home course.  If it says Titleist people will put it in play.

Driver - Callaway Mavrik 10.5* - Project X EvenFlow Riptide 50 5.5

4W - Callaway Mavrik 16.5* - Project X EvenFlow Riptide 60 5.5

7W - Callaway Mavrik 21* - Project X EvenFlow Riptide 60 5.5

4-GW - Mizuno JPX 850 Forged - TT Dynamic Gold R300

SW - Cleveland RTX ZipCore - 54Mid10 - TT Dynamic Spinner

GW - Cleveland RTX ZipCore - 58Full12 - TT Dynamic Spinner

Putter - Odyssey White Hot 6

Ball - Vice Pro or Wilson Staff Zip

I've definitely found quite a few AVX's on courses before but not in the same numbers as ProV1 or ProV1x.  I know I've never found a left dot and I'm fairly certain that I've never found a left dash but it's possible I'm forgetting finding one or two. That's something that probably varies greatly by the average clientele/membership of particular courses.

Highly doubtful that Titleist would expose prototypes to the general public before the USGA has made an official adoption decision on the proposal. Even if they do, the earliest that the new ODS test conditions would be adopted would be 2026. Basically there isn’t a target to design towards until the USGA adopts a final regulation.

Still speculation at this point, but it is likely their typical fall test release of a model being released to retail next year (so not the retail ProV1/X given that those are mid-cycle).
