T200 Feel

Recommended Posts

I tried the AP3 (precursor to the T200) when it first came out, and it felt clanky to me, particularly on less than perfect strikes.

I have been playing T300 and they are fine, and feel solid on good strikes.  But being a WRX'er, I thought I would try a T200 7-iron for winter practice, and if it goes well I would pick up a T200 9-iron and maybe PW for my minimalist bag.  I may not be good enough for the T200, but that's why I want to try one.  How does the T200 feel?

You are probably skilled enough to play the T200. I think the question you should be asking yourself is why do you want to put the T200's in that part of your bag?  I think if you are just looking for more spin you may get a bit, but you may lose descent angle and will probably lose distance. Just my two cents, which probably ain't worth too much...lol!

Just IMO of course…

There are two T200 versions out currently- the previous “plastic back” and the new and improved 2023/24 version. The new version appears to be much improved in the sound/feel/appearance environment.

If we consider irons from the effect on a golf shot rather than a “target player” viewpoint, the T300 is attempting to produce height from non-optimal impacts, while the T200 series is more interested in maintaining distance. Neither is targeted towards precision. If I were looking to actually improve my scores, I would go T150.

T200 2021 are alittle on the noisy side, but I used them for my 4 and 5 iron as they are more forgiving than my T100S.

I also have a T200 6 iron but I prefer to keep the 6 on down at T100S.

Well, that's an interesting comment.  I would have to practice and play with each for over a month to determine if I should go that route.

That might be an excellent learning opportunity both from an equipment and shot-making standpoint. Could be a real game changer as they say, but I don’t know if it would take quite that long.. 😉

I have two T200 17' 2 irons and one 22' 4 iron, and a new 2023 T200 17' 2 iron in the bag.  They feel different, with the new T200 feeling a bit more solid at impact, better sound too.  "2023" T200 is a bit more bladelike.

In general, T200 series has more forgiveness, meant to hit the ball straight, whereas T100 offers workability, strong lofted T150 is IME less workable than T100.  I base that on having played the equivalent T100S set, now in storage.   For most people T200 and T350 series are more likely to improve scores.

I was fit into T300 irons with a lightweight Fubuki MV IR 50 (senior) shaft.  Ordered 7 to 9-iron.  No good, too light.  I then tried a 7-iron with a Steelfiber I80 shaft; it was pretty firm and I couldn't hit anything but fades.  Went back to my AP1's with the 105T Nippon shaft.  Then I bought T300 7-irons with a Nippon 950 NEO (R), and a 950 GH.  The 950 NEO's worked, so I have a set of 7 - 9 T300 with 950 NEO's.  Still using my old AP2 (714) PW with the 105 T shaft.  I am working on replacing that with a T150 PW.

I could probably tell in a few weeks, outside, in practice and play if the T200 would be preferable.

Based on hitting it last night in a dome, the T200 7-iron feels great, and maybe I am good enough to game it and the 8 and 9-irons.  My slight toe hits did not seem to be penalized, and felt just fine.

As far as total distance compared to the T300, which is important to me, I will have to wait until next year to hit both outside.

So my experiment failed.   So if you want a half of a combo set   T200 in 7/8 and T150 in 9/P   I'll make a great deal for you,   If I recall from previous discussions we aren't far off from specs, but I could be wrong  They are Tensei Red R flex shafts.

Thanks, but I am playing Nippon 950 NEO, at +1/2".  I am good for now, and would only order a 9-iron with the NEO next spring.

Thanks for thinking of me.

I now have T200 7-iron, 9-iron and PW in my bag.  I played most of last summer with T300 7, 9 and PW, so we'll see if I like the difference.  I also have a T150 PW, which I might play instead of the T200.

In the spring I might buy a T150 7-iron just to compare to the T200.  I'm using 105T in the T150 and a new SW.  I have 950 NEO in the T200's.
