The wrist video in your efficient swing series is awesome. Always wanted a drill I could do where 1) it would allow me to do the wrist movements in transition and not change my backswing much and 2) I could do the drill and let it bleed into my normal swing. I can do 3 swings with the wrist drill you showed, take a swing and the shaft really starts to shallow without me thinking about anything. Very helpful

I imagine you've never thought you "invented" this. You may have made it popular, or maybe even were the first to express it the way you have.

But… yeah. Mike Bender was saying things like this, Nicklaus was saying things like this, and probably you could go back to the 1930s and people were saying things like this… and I am sure you've probably seen and may have a list of many of those types of things.

Anyway, I envy those who have the time and desire and skill at making some videos like this. 🙂 I need to get back into making some more videos. I'd have to record them at like 10pm, though, so I am guaranteed to have the academy to myself. 😉

The modern teacher who really made this type of ulnar popular was Dana Dahlquist. Although he likely still uses it in some situations,

he has said that it created problems for many of his students and he has joked that he cringes with regret when he sees people rehearsing it on the internet.

yeah, I remember seeing him say that.

I took lessons from him in like 2015, he was working with a lot of good players whose swing I liked. He was big on getting the shaft more steep/ slightly inside the ball on the backswing and then pointing outside it on the downswing, all his players did that. That was all we worked on for a while. Nothing about rotation.

From what I’ve seen he started getting more into rotational style swing, similar to what I’ve seen Grant Waite teach as well.

Did he mention what sorts of problems it created?

If your thorax turns early it’s a major issue.  Many people that do that have trouble with this movement.

If………..you sequence your thorax and arms adequately (doesn’t have to be elite), this move works well.

He didn’t go into specific detail on that so I won’t speak for him.

I know that now he almost never tells anyone to ulnar deviate actively. I give him credit for evolving beyond something that caused issues for his students. Big key there being *almost* because there are some people who need more ulnar deviation and there is no limit to the amount of exaggeration some people need to feel. But at one point he was having most of his students do this and it’s worth noting that he slammed the brakes on this concept.

I think it’s easy to fall into the trap of over-teaching this because it can change the pitch of the shaft in transition so drastically from a dtl camera angle. But IMO over-teaching this concept just shows a lack of understanding of cause and effect.

The cast part is pretty easy but the turn is another matter all together.

Makes it a lot easier to turn if you are looking at the target at impact. That frees things up quite a bit.

I used to hum a few bars of "Frosty the Snowman" in drafting class once I learned that it got stuck in John Miles's head really easily. It didn't matter if it was May… I could hum a few bars and half an hour later he'd be humming or whistling it.

If I was captured as a spy and being interrogated….and they started playing that video on a loop, I’d tell them everything they want to know.

Okay, what do you really think about the sound and feel of the AI Smoke? 😀

Also, will it write my daughter's essays for her?

People tend to copy mannerisms also.   I remember reading in some article or book where the author mentioned that he noticed a friend doing some odd movement with this arm quite often while talking with him.   A week or so later he was talking with a friend across the country and after a while he noticed his friend doing the same odd movement that he had noticed his other friend doing previously.  I think that phenomenon is why I my swing is usually better when I golf with a really good player...
