Anyone still prefer G425 LST over G430?

Recommended Posts

I played G425 LST for two seasons and stupidly got rid of it when I upgraded to G430 LST. But the 430 just was never quite right for me. I drove it the best I ever have with 425 LST and might pick up another one before Ping stops making them. Anyone else still loving the G425?

I still laugh when these subjects come up. Like what is it, a few years old? just because it's a few years old doesn't mean it magically won't work, heck the driver still outperforms most recent drivers ... if you take the sound out of the equation.

True, I should have phrased it, “anyone still prefer G425 LST over G430.”

  • Lloyd_Christmas29 changed the title to Anyone still prefer G425 LST over G430?

I believe Viktor Hovland does. I heard a podcast a while back that he didn’t switch to 430 because the CG changed and it was more fade or draw biased (can’t remember which) so he stuck with 425. Good on PING that they didn’t really push him to change because they knew the physics of it and 425 was better for his swing.

G425 LST seems more fade biased whereas the G430 LST seems more neutral from the testing I've done.  We all know Victor plays that pull fade so it doesn't surprise me that he hasn't switched.

Haha I was going to say the opposite. I think the 425 was slightly less fade bias. Both great drivers.

I never hit the 425 but the 430lst is stupidly good and accurate. Ive hit approximately 1  slice with it  and everything else was always in play nothing more then a fade pull or push for a bad hit. Obviously straight shots mixed in. The only issue i had was im 95-100 mph swing speed and the ball would fall out of sky from not enough spin but when i cranked the loft back to 10.5 it worked and went back to normal distances. The feel and sound is ridiculously good.

425 sounds like hitting a frying pan, at least G430 sounds like hitting a metal pole or something

Regarding the bias, my understanding is that the 430 has a heavier back weight that therefore imparts more fade or draw bias when put in those respective positions.

For me the 410 LST with the weight in fade setting at standard loft is totally neutral. So when I set up a 430 the same way with the same total headweight on the same shaft it wants to fade. It actually wanted to really peel off, but it probably got into my head and I also happen to be cursed with high sensitivity to weight changes. Either way, I got itchy and tried them and the new setup is not better for me.

425 makes you feel like you’re hitting it really far because of the louder sound though.

I'm on the fence on selling my 425 LST ever since I got a TM last year..... But I recently took it out to the range to see if it's still a keeper. Well, the very fist swing at it, I called Aquaman and his sea friends with the loudest echoing sound under the roof top hitting bay. It was kind of embarrassing when some of the guys turned and looked at me. The next time I took it out, I went to the open uncovered hitting bays.

I will be keeping my driver for now and use it for my second bag, otherwise I'll drop down to a 3w or burner. I'll never get used to those larger driver heads of today.

It sounds like you're cracking someone's head open with an aluminum baseball bat, not that I know, haha.  G430 has a nicer more muted  thwack to it.

Going from a carbon face driver to a g425 is like 0 to 100 for volume.

That's how I felt when I ditched the G400LST for the 410 and then the 425.

Luckily, the 430 LST is basically the G400 only better!

Still in a 410 LST. Numbers on the 425 and 430 have been no better so no reason to change. Do really like the look and sound of the 430 crown though with that carbon.
