How to maintain mechanics through round when body is feeling fatigued...

Apart from the obvious stuff mentioned re hydration and health, if you're losing your swing mid round you're probably losing a sense of the clubhead. As soon as your swing starts to go south, flip a club over, grip it by the head end and make half a dozen swings. Then grip it normally and you'll have a much enhanced sense of the clubhead.

I’ve always pushed my cart for 18 holes. I’ve found out through experience that only by getting fit I can finish my rounds without getting tired. I used to become a T model Ford for the las 5/6 holes and the usual sad story. Even worse because I’m usually better at closing rounds. I tried all the hydration and the snacks but the exhaustion took over and my body and mind didn’t respond.

I lost a couple of tournaments because of this so I decided to hit the gym for the first time in my life. I work out twice a week, generic training, I power walk twice a week and usually play on Saturdays. It’s made a great difference with my rounds and I get home after the round and I no longer feel knackered for the rest of the day.

A fair amount of water (copious in summer) and some fruit are complementary. However, when I wasn’t fit this diet didn’t work its magic at all.

Finally able to get out a bit (now 7 inches of snow coming) the past couple of weeks for quick paced 9 hole rounds, felt good and more about the walking and in for now, carrying, but always a push cart for 18 or more when I walk - sounds silly but if I can't walk 18 without feeling tired I don't feel like I'm in shape for 9, if I can't walk 27 I don't feel like I'm in shape for 18 - mechanics fade when you get tired. Hydration staves off the effects of dehydration but getting in better shape to do what you need to do to walk the course and make a golf swing is the most important thing, IMO.

I agree but of those who know what one is and profess to have one I'd bet for most of those it's crap and inconsistent ---- I see proof every time I look in a mirror.

I'm sure you are being hard on yourself. Most don't have a clue and it starts with no clue about course strategy. I am constantly amazed at people who have played for a long time and play the same shot type, have no clue how to set themselves up on a hole to give themselves the best chance at a good score.

I for one don't always stick my pre-shot and that is where the problem lies. In the "Thinking Box," it should be all about where am I wanting to aim, swing key, posture, set up and then stepping into the hitting zone. Sometimes I don't even get into the "Box." Seems to be much easier to do when I'm walking as opposed to riding.

Since Covid, water on the course has become scarce. So now carrying an insulated Tourit backpack, one 20oz bottle of water with pak of LivPur Nutrition, which helps prevent fatigue...great drink too, and an additional 46oz Yeti filled with water, plus food.

+1000 on the walking vs. riding ..... and I ride way too much - guys I play with are dedicated non-walkers and think getting from A to B in a rush, even though you sit and wait at B, is "fast" - I mostly walk by myself or while my wife "caddies" with a cart when she and I go out and play together. Always my most enjoyable rounds and when I feel I can actually accomplish something with my game.
