Callaway shirt issues. Another brand recommendation?

Recommended Posts

I have purchased a handful of Callaway shirts over the past year because I like the way they fit me. However, I started to notice an issue with the first one I bought. The logo is pealing off. I always wash according to the instructions so I was hopeful Callaway would make it right. I reached out to them and they said without a receipt they would do nothing. I’m not surprised, but I’m a little disappointed they don’t stand behind their product.

So what are your favorite golf shirt recommendations? I think I’ll stay clear of Callaway now.

I don't blame Callaway for that, I'm sure anyone could just find old cheap shirts an exchange them for new ones.

But similar fits I'd say Dunning for length or Stitch Golf for that's same roomy fit but not as long.

Yeah, I hear you.  But in this case, I've purchased 5 shirts, a q-zip and a pair of shorts all in the past year.  And that "no receipt, no luck" answer from their customer service department lost them future business.  I even sent them a photo of all of my purchases along with the photo of the defective shirt, so they didn't care.  But it seems like they should factor that in.  They'd know if someone was abusing the return policy.  But to essentially have no return policy without a receipt seems a little ridiculous.  I save receipts for major purchases, but not clothing.

Thanks for the detailed info about similar fit!  I do like the length that Callaway seems to have in their shirts.

I get that, I'd even try or call in cause usually Callaway is great, maybe delt with someone new or having a bad day. If they were online orders an order number is good enough for them.

I started with the main Callaway site and they sent me to callawayapparel.com, which is where I got shut down. So I'm wondering if apparel matters are handled differently (and by different people) than equipment matters.  No idea.

I've found that I really like Original Penguin shirts.  The fit and fabric are both very appealing to me.

Forgot about these, made by the same company. Same with Jack Nicklaus and PGA Tour Apparel.

As a last resort I just posted something on Instagram and tagged them hoping to get their attention.  And I did.  They responded and said to chat with agents on their website and they'd make it right.  I then chatted with an agent, explained what they said on Instagram, and was told (again) I was out of luck because I didn't have a receipt.  Grrrr.  It is a right-hand left-hand situation over there apparently.

Well, after blowing me off a couple of times, Callaway did reach out to me to make it right.  I think their social media guys must've talked to someone in customer service.  They reiterated (for the third time) that their policy requires a receipt.  So now I know to keep receipts for any Callaway merchandise I purchase.  But they sent me a credit at callawayapparel.com as a goodwill gesture.  So that was nice of them.

I always assume that heat-transferred logos are going to be prone to what you've experienced at SOME point.

How many washes in did that start to happen? And how do you dry those shirts?

I've gone ahead and peeled off the remainder of logos when they've started to "molt" -- but on dark shirts where there's no visible residue left behind. That shirt of yours looks like it's toast. No fun.

Yeah, I get it.  I just haven't had the same issues with any other brand of shirt (Under Armour, Nike, etc.) like I have had with this one.  If it was a few years old and gone through dozens of washings, then I'd understand.    This was still fairly new.  Maybe 5-10 washings.

I actually did what you have suggested and pealed the rest of the logo off.  I worked on the adhesive residue for a while with detergent and a magic eraser.  It is still visible (but barely).  I'll at least be able to wear it under a q-zip.  Maybe after a few more washings it'll be gone completely.

I do wash/dry the shirts (always inside-out) on cold.  I normally do dry them on low or they come out wrinkled.  I'll have to be more careful with my other Callaway shirts/q-zips with that type of logo.  Maybe I'll try to pull them out of the dryer while they are still damp.  It's just that I consider these "athletic" clothes since I play golf in them and I need to be able to wash/dry them.  If they really are this delicate, then I should probably switch brands.

Even though they sent me a credit on their store, I didn't order another shirt.  I ordered a pair of shorts and a q-zip that was on sale.  I'm still not sure I want to have shirts I have to treat with kid gloves.

Are they 100% polyester? If so, I'm under the impression that you shouldn't ever put poly through the dryer (unless it's gym shorts or socks or something you otherwise aren't too concerned about). Especially with that type of logo, I think the heat and action of the dryer probably is probably not good for them. But what's done is done, and I wouldn't be happy about the circumstances, either.

Logos peeling is one reason I try to avoid logos altogether. The other is I prefer not to pay someone to advertise their product.  Often unavoidable though, as  in bags, like Ping.

I never use the dryer on most clothes- shortens the life of the garment,  just hang to dry after removing from the washer promptly.

I hear you.  I could care less about logos, but it seems like most shirts have them these days.  I just happen to like the way Callaway shirts fit me.  I definitely don't buy them for the brand/logo.  🙂

With "Callaway" apparel, you're dealing with Perry Ellis. The logo might be the same, but different companies and not the same customer care.

I'll leave it at that. (wink)

Yeah, I didn't realize that until yesterday when they sent me that credit and it mentioned Perry Ellis.  I had no idea they were the ones that produced Callaway apparel.
