yall need to look in the mirror and just buy the wedge, seriously take some time looking yourself in the eye -- you deserve it, new grooves are so magical and not overrated, think of how often you use that thing, for a lot of golfers its every time they miss the green - 18 times a round on the low-end. It helps all levels of golfers regardless of ability -- if your assumption is you can't take advantage of it like the pros due to your lack of technique you are mistaken, sure you are not nearly as versatile as them but all your 54* - 62* degree wedges deserve better treatment than every club in your bag. 

 

It is a luxury that every golfer doesn't know they need. They are the absolute horses of every golfers bag set-up. So much so that over time people are convinced the one they have had forever is comfortable and predictable therefore not worthy of a change. A wedge is valiant weapon whose only sworn enemy is the prominent Texas wedge.  Practical choice taking putter? sure is...and the data backs that up, but its not because you like to putt off the green. No deep down its because your afraid to chip. You've lied to yourself so long you have begun to believe that to be the truth. More often than not the best way to have some semblance of control over your ball and get somewhat close to the flag in most situations is to chip. There are absolutely shots that a putter is limited to and can legitimately not execute.

 

Get yourself a mid to high-bounce wedge and some new grooves, preferably a lesson as well and watch your confidence come back again.  Short game matters. That means Wedge lives matters.  

 

This is the mid-season crisis sign that you needed to pull the trigger on that the new wedge. The cure that you deserve. It just may be the missing piece to your game, we can't rule it out until you try.

 

 Pay attention next time you chip out the rough, downwind, or onto a downslope, watch it careen across the putting surface and realize you've lied to yourself for too long. Most likely that ball spun that one time from those bone dry conditions on low cut grass, the slight upslope it landed into, and most importantly the massive amount of wind blowing in your face.

 

Ask yourself did I know that was gonna happen? Did I try to do that? Maybe you did but more often than not you didn't, so its safe to say that that shot alone is not proof your wedge has plenty of grooves left to spin it -- if you are assuming its in there and you just don't know how to get the spin out of it you need a new wedge today. Preferable not from Costco.

 

All golfers suffer from this reality of wedges that don't spin in one of two ways:

 

Ignorance or Silence

SPIN addiction has been linked to users in trials to long term dependency by all users regardless of ability. Those most at risk of addiction are minors who are exposed at a young age to the capabilities professionals - it is not uncommon or taboo to be addicted to spin but chasing it is, it is often perceived as cool to spin the golf ball as seen on TV but this propaganda has pushed amateurs everywhere to chase the oohs and ahhs of their buddies resulting in higher scores, and over time a distasteful frustration leading to a shrinking of the game.

 

Don't ever attempt to use the low-check-check nipper in situations when you do not need to. Attempting to do this and succeeding is the first step towards abuse. Relying on your 60 can be problematic, If every golfer can recognize a bump-n-run is a better option and you still try to use the lob you may have a problem - this is a clear warning sign of a person in danger of addiction. They are often delusional in their ability can pull it off with fresh grooves but will not be able to pull off that shot in 3 months time w/o buying a new wedge, AGAIN. This is especially prevalent at the highest level of the game. Know the signs of addiction

 

The product becomes a necessity among heavy users lucky enough to get free product or have the disposable income necessary for new wedges every 6 months. If you purchased a fresh wedge and have used it at all in the last year  -- you have already begun to experience withdrawal symptoms from spin. Education is the key

Context around the shot is important and outside factors determine a majority of what is and is not possible on any given shot. This lack of understanding of what SPIN is applicable to and when it is helpful is more important than the spin itself. SPIN can not guarantee it will improve your game. If you try SPIN and do not notice a difference in your game, you are the problem. Knowing your game you likely situationally screwed yourself regardless in the spot you were in and simply expect too much of SPIN. You will forever be let down and need to get better at understanding/recognizing why something is difficult as well as what is possible based on the conditions surrounding the shot. The tough to swallow truth is, No human could possibly get close from where you have currently left yourself.

Saw this coming - I figured someone was for sure gonna say something smart along the lines of "must not be the only thing he's addicted too." If it was posted at 4pm would I get the same reaction? LOL somtimes you just gotta call a spade a spade. Coors light was the ultimate culprit. Been a while since I've felt such a spark of creativity. I was a vessel for something else.

 

Looking back at it I can't believe anyone actually read all that.

 

Must've been the enthralling title to hook ya scrolling by, the clear but not quite concise main points, and an ending that sums it all up with what I hope you took away from it. If you were an English teacher you would have to at least be objective and respect my textbook essay structure and attempted humor. Regardless of the subject matter.

 

It wasn't what I came on the site to post at all but holy cow did it make for what I still think to be an incredible analogy. Just what the doctor ordered. Felt like the perfect audience for what I hope is viewed as a hilariously random line of thinking. 

 

I was absolutely cookin my friends and admittedly giddy af throughout the whole process. Felt like comedic gold 

 

I am however, embarrassed by the large number of missing/added words and clear lack of grammar. All of those things aside, I think that people will be picking up what I'm putting down and most likely giggle about at least one thing. If they don't they're just a hater and probably have the yips!

If you want the most spin though, a bit of online research shows that currently on the market, the spinniest ball is the Kirkland V3 ball and the spinniest wedge is the PXG Sugar Daddy II wedge. A cheap ball with an expensive wedge, what a funny combo!

In all seriousness - I want to talk about spin too.

 

I just got back from my annual beach vacation in North and South Carolina.  Played 4x.  I played my usual clubs and balls (see sig - of note my SM5 are new - I bought 3 sets when they came out (insert maniac laughter here).  When playing chips and pitches, especially the high spin variety, I got loads more grab down there compared to Ohio greens and grass around green.  Is turf type a factor in generating spin?  I was getting some real screamers down there.  I loved it - I could be aggressive knowing 1 or 2 hops and that tp5 was stopping in its tracks.  Around here - I get feet of roll out with same technique.

 

Turf down there is different grass (not sure what it is - bermuda?) and lies are tight compared to here (bent grass).

I've got a pre-2010 60* in my bag. I hit high lob shots that land soft and spin plenty. Often times my old 60 spins too much.

The need to change out wedge often is reserved for players who literally hit hundreds of wedge shots every week. Especially a lob wedge that should be landing softly regardless.
