Peter Millar, Johnnie-O, Footjoy, Polo Sizing

Hey guys. Wanting to expand the polo collection. Currently wear a lot of Rhoback. Size large. Love the fit of them. Might be a touch big. Under armour is a little smaller and large fits well. What do you guys wear in Peter Millar, Johnnie-O, FJ, H&B, etc.

To me, Rhoback and PM fit pretty similar. I would consider both to be a little on the bigger fit side, with PM maybe slightly baggier on me.

For reference, I’m a touch under 5’9”, 155lbs.  I wear small in Rhoback, Peter Millar, and Johnnie O.  Medium in Under Armor and Holderness and Bourne.  Haven’t bought a FJ polo in years, but the one i have is a medium and it now swamps me.

Both, I find that PM polos (both in Medium) are baggier than Rhoback polos. Both brands are kind of weird sizing for me, I prefer a trim fit, Medium is bigger than I generally prefer and small in Rhoback fits but is kind of tight (have not tried a PM in small).

PM has different collections with different sizings.  Crown Sport collection will be a little baggier and looser fitting, Crown Crafted collection will be more fitted.  A medium Crown Sport is too big for me but medium Crown Crafted is perfect (fits pretty similar to Rhoback medium).  Johnnie O medium is a little baggier than a Rhoback, but not as generous as Crown Sport so also a good fit.  H&B is pretty fitted.  The medium gets a little too form fitting through the midsection but the large is too big.  FJ is better now with fitting than they traditionally were.  I would swim in a small in FJ but now the medium fits pretty similar to a Johnnie O medium.

Millar, Footjoy, Rhoback and Johnny O are all baggy so they seem to all fit close to the same.

FJ will be the baggiest, I need to size down in their standard fit. PM is a fuller cut as well, but has higher arm holes so they appear more fitted (crown sport/summer comfort). Crown crafted is very fitted. H+B it all depends on your size. They’re mediums are really snug, but the large is baggy, they could really use an M/L in my opinion.

I'm between sizes on all these brands right now but how they fit me. 

 

Peter Millar: 

Summer Comfort - XXL baggy, should be XL in this cut now. 

Featherweight- XXL nice fit. 

 

Johnnie-0: 

XXL is nice, a touch baggy on me depending on my shirt. I need to try XL. Don't know about their other fabrics. They're a hair smaller than the Summer Comfort but more true to size. 

 

FJ: 

Honestly I'm lost I have 2 and the XL is looser than the XXL 🤷‍♂️. Try them on but they run big apparently. 

 

Rhoback: 

I only bought an XL polo but it was snug so returned it. XXL might fit me but I could also be swimming. 

 

H&B: 

Performance Pique - XXL I'm swimming in, similar to PM Summer Comfort probably XL for me, but I'd avoid this material.

Performance Jersey - Slimmer fit more true to size probably closer to PM Featherweight. 

 

Stitch: 

XL these run bit so size down, I had a bunch of XXL and they were comically big, have a single XL and it fits great. 

 

Vineyard Vines: 

Sankaty Polo- XL, these also run a bit big so possibly size down. I have a 2XL and it's just way to big for me now. The XLs I have are better.

RLX classic fit runs big.  I returned larges for mediums

I stopped buying FJ because I just never knew what I was getting in terms of fit; some www just HUGE.  I love the consistency of the fit of PM and Johnnie O.  The Johnnie O stuff is my favorite now.

Oh man that's splitting hairs, both are great brands for shirts. Sizing wise at XXL in each brand VV is way roomier. I don't have any JO in XL right now but VV fits me nicely at that. 

 

For length JO is shorter so if you like a casual or untucked look. VV I'd a bit longer, so good to tuck or untuck. 

 

Materials I haven't tried them all these brands are hard to access in Canada. But the JO performance prep in Pique or Jersey knit is both nice and light, I'm very curious on their Featherweight. Gor VV I've just tried their Sankaty, Nantz/OTG polos and they're that polyester material most shirts are now. 

 

So really comes down to looks, I will say VV has way more sales and big discounts, JO not so much.

Need to clarify which PM. 
Summer Comfort are loose. 
Crown Crafted are tailored. 
 

Johnnie O is a bit slimmer than Summer Comfort but not close to Crown Crafted. 

Holderness are a more slim fit, similar to Crown crafted.

5’10 150ish almost always wear medium 

 

HB mediums fit the best of the bunch. Slimmer than a rhoback medium.
(Be warned their fit varies by size. The small and medium are designed to be more fitted and the larger sizes fit more relaxed. It’s a nice idea but can be tough to say their shirts generally fit big or small because it depends on the size. Havent tried on a large from them.)
 

Rhoback mediums fit me fine. Always tempted with a small looking at the size chart but medium is the right fit for me. 
 

PM I wear their summer comfort in small. They fit well. Mediums are too big. Pay attention to the line. Crown crafted is their more fitted line. Don’t own any because I keep buying what works for me. 
 

FJ don’t bother unless it’s an athletic fit. If so order your normal size. A tad bigger than the others mentioned here but always solid materials and quality. 
 

Johnie O- medium fits great in a pullover. Down own any polos. 
 

VV I’m a small in their polos but don’t wear them on the golf course. Shirttail isn’t long enough to stay tucked for smalls. Mediums are a big bigger than preferred. 
 

I have a couple Medium Donald Ross sport fit polos that fit very well.

I am a small in Peter Millar classic fit (Crown, Crown Sport) and a medium in Peter Millar tailored fit (Crown Crafted). Those are the best fitting of any polos for me. A little loose but not baggy. In Johnnie O, I'm between a small and medium. The smalls are a little tight around the gut/love handles but the sleeves and upper chest fits great; the mediums are maybe a bit too big but more comfortable in hot weather for me. I don't like a polo that is skin tight around the gut. Foot Joy's regular fit small fits me like a trash bag and is unwearable, I haven't tried their athletic fit yet. Vineyard Vines performance smalls fit me very similar to Peter Millar classic fit, maybe slightly tighter. Dunning's small is almost too big (though not Foot Joy big) but I have a few, if they had an XS I'd probably fit in that better.

Just to follow up. bought a PM medium. Love the fit. You're right. Just a bit bigger than rhoback.

Haven't dived into HB or JO yet.  I have one PM Summer comfort in a medium last year when I joined TPC TC, which is a bit bigger than all the Greyson Medium I have.  Just picked up a new PM Summer Comfort yesterday at the 3M Open and it is a little trimmer fit that my previous one.  I thought I read they changed the sizing a little, but side by side, the new one is a little more slim and fits a little closer to all my Greyson shirts.
