hybrid shafts

i'm looking to buy a new hybrid very soon, most likely a '08 cobra baffler pro, i was just wondering what would be a good graphite shaft to go along with this head? i would like it to be a medium penetrating flight, to be able to bore through any wind, but still with enough spin/launch to land soft on greens. also something less then 120 dollars. as for swing speed and all that junk, my average swing speed with driver is 100-105 mph, with a smooth tempo, average driver carry is between 245-260 yds. also, it would help if the shaft was "anti-left" (whatever that means).

Try ordering the Cobra Pro in the stock speeder stiff and have them tip it .5 inches if you're fairly smooth in tempo. That shaft plays fairly soft at the bottom of the shaft and tipping it and then having it PURED helped my son. If you've got a quick transition, go for a little more. Or if tipping it more than .5 inches scares you, see if Cobra will put in an xstiff or a real shaft from their custom dept -- call Cobra CS for alternatives.

You could go Ozik XCON Hy.

Matrix Ozik XCon Altus Hybrid.

best hybrid shaft out there for smooth swingers who want it to cut through, go high, and land soft. and it feels incredible. I just bought one used for well under $100 and am just going to find a head for it.

but I've seen new ones on the bay go for around the $125 mark.

I thought this shaft was JUNK when I first had it installed. I had a real aggressive transition from backswing to downswing. A couple months later and my swing is a lot more smooth on the transition and I've also learned to make lag. The shaft works GREAT now! I'd agree that the Altus HB is for smooth swingers.

Another shaft I like is the Harrison Impulse. It's $50 and I think it's probably one of the best hybrid shafts you'll never hear about.

thanks for all the input guys, well i just purchased the baffler pro in 18* yesterday. i demo'd it along with the new callaway ft and the rescue tp. personally i wasn't very impressed with the ft. even my solid hits didn't feel as good as with the rescue or the baffler. i decided to go with the baffler because although the head sizes were the same and i had similar distances with both and could work both quite easily, i felt that the baffler was a bit more forgiving with mishits, which is what i need in the event of an off swing or two.

with the stock speeder shaft in stiff flex, i was carrying this an average of between 225-235 yds, and had consistent total distances of around 250. the shaft didn't really feel too flexible for me, but my clubhead speed i believe will be increasing a bit as the year goes on as i've been taking a number of serious lessons and have really been improving by the week.

Congrats -- the Cobra Pro is a nice club. Remember, if the shaft gets a little soft for you towards the tip, that club's length is very long -- you can tip it .5 inches more to make it a tad more stout.

I am leaning this way too....going with a baffler pro....I love the look of the 08 model since it doesn't have that 2 toned head anymore (on top)

I am going to be demoing it in the next few days and hopefully purchasing one shortly there after.

I am up in the air about which loft I need though....I don't have a 3 iron because I have a 3rd wedge so I don't know if I need one to replace where my 3 iron would be or on that takes the place of a 2 iron like I have been accustomed too (18*).

I also was worried about the shaft since it is hard to find one in x-stiff......so the club plays a little long and could be tipped to make it a little stiffer?

Thanks

Scott

In my instance, I found the stiff plays soft towards the bottom of the shaft -- but the Cobras are very long in length -- if it's not enough shaft, start at .5 inches of tipping, and if you play an X-Stiff, you could tip it more if .5 inches doesn't work and still have a decent length -- take a look at the length in the Cobra specs --- they're long. You might be better off special ordering with a custom shaft that you know will work instead of praying that the stock shaft will work.

Cobra hybrid is a 335 tip shaft.

The head weight are good for normal 355-370 hybrid shaft witha shorter set up.

But the hosel need to be reamed to be able to use those normal hybrid shaft.

I don't know why Cobra are still using those 335 tip wood shaft. They might want to keep up with the hybrid shaft technology IMO.

I also switched to an 18 degree 08 Baffler Pro this season and really like the results. I did bore the hosel and installed an Aldila DVS 90 S .355 taper shaft. It brought the ball flight up but it doesn't seem to balloon and I can still work it pretty well. Joe I couldn't believe that Cobra was still using the .335 tip either, especially considering I had the orginal speeder out before measuring!!

alright well the club guy at my local shop is setting me up with a fujikura e360 40" stiff. i've tried it before in drivers and really liked it, so we'll see how it goes in my 'brid.

update: the fuji shaft is amazing. what the guy did was since the tip of the cobra hybrids are .335, instead of boring the hosel out, he took a fuji e360 fit-on stiff driver shaft and cut it down to 40", and it is incredible. it almost plays a bit like an x-stiff, but with all my swing changes that i've made lately and adding the speed that i have, i can now handle it and use this club to its full potential. my yardage with it hasn't really changed, it still am carrying it about 210-215, 220 if i catch it good, but the trajectory has lowered a bit due to the stiffer shaft, but that's exactly what i wanted it, as i plan to use it more as a driving club on tight holes (and as good as it is it might knock out my 3 wood, which would leave me with an empty slot for a 14th club, but thats a whole other problem). i feel like i can control the trajectory and direction of it more, and the shorter shaft compared to the 41" stock shaft adds control, and it doesn't feel as whippy when i really go after it. i found a solid gamer, thats for sure.

A less expensive option is the V2. But I'd go back to steel if I wasn't so lazy to swap them out. :partytime2:

Hi,

Do it, you won't regret the time spent.

I had an Adams A2 Idea #2 that I really struggled to keep on the course, I would hook something chronic.

I bought some .355 Nippon NS Pro 850GH pullouts for my Callaway X-20 Tour irons and the guy sent me an extra #3 and #4 .355T, I decided to put the #3 into the Adams A2 #2 hybrid, best thing I did, plays slightly stiffer.

I now hit this at will, low draw, high fade or if swinging really well on the day, dead straight.

It must've been the way I load up the graphite hybrid shafts, I tried numerous hybrids, all the same.

I had to brass shim the .355T to fit into the .370 hosel, but it's a really tight fit and no problems what so ever, just plenty of positives.

These NS Pro 850GH shafts are just simply awesome, love them in my X-20 Tours as well.

Cheerz :clapping: :) :man_in_love:
