Tiger's putter @ 2008 US OPEN

What happened to Tiger's sight dot on the top of his putter? When they showed his putter in slow motion on 16 he distinctly had a sight line on the top of his putter. Are the sight dots suddenly out of style?

I don't think 'out of style' has anything to do with it. If there's one thing that makes Tiger like any of us, is that personal preference dictates equipment choices. Obviously he now prefers a sight line instead of a dot.

I'd have to see some clear pictures before I believe that Tiger has made any changes to his putter.

as far as i remember reading he has used the same putter to win every major except 1, which translates to approx 70 miilion $

I'd love to see this "clear as day" shot of a sightline on his putter. Because all the closeups I saw were of the same ol' putter he's always used - with a dot, not a line.

I think the OP is mistaken. Tiger hasn't made that change.

Tiger has not changed. He still has the site dot on the topline.

I either read or heard him say, "I've used the same putter since '99 at the Byron Nelson". . .He surely didn't switch putters. I can certainly seeing him uprade to a sight line. The question remains though, did anything change??

I can't say I ever noticed the sight dot change, but I did notice multiple times a slight/small gouge/dent thingy out of back sole near his right bumper on back views...something that looked like it happened out of anger maybe? Maybe my eyes are getting bad.

I just watched the replay of the putt on 18 and there is now way you can confirm a sight dot there.

 

By the way, I was referring to a slo mo on 16 of round 3

Yes you can. If it was a sight line on the topline it would have shown as clear as day from that angle. The fact that you could barely make out there was some alignment device proves it is still a dot.

His putter seems to have the same Ping grip from 1995 too (on a Cameron putter too).

As I said, until I see a clear picture of a line, I refuse to believe Tiger would allow his putter to be modified.

Don't forget that member at TCC has actually held Tiger's actual gamer in his own hands. He has not noted any changes to Tiger's putter. IIRC, the member last held Tiger's putter at Doral in earlier this year. Tiger would have had time to change the sight dot to a sight line but I seriously doubt it. Tiger is very reluctant to change what is working in terms of equipment.

I seriously think it was a sight line . Discounted it though , because of visual clarity . I was watching without glasses at that time.

But we all know he has a dot for years .

Tiger's putter went back to the Cameron Putter Studio about a year and a half ago and his initials were welded over and the putter had a spa conditioning. This is probably when the shaft was last replaced as well.

Why would TW want his intials welded over?

Was it for a new face milling so they welded over the intials because they would be milled anyway?

In all of the close-ups from the open this past weekend of him putting in slow-mo, he never had his name back there... I will check DVR tonight to confirm, but that's something I would have noticed.. sticks out like a sore-thumb...

 

It's said TIGER WOODS on the bumpers for years now. Initials on the face are non existing on the actual thing.

It didn't went to the spa either a year or so ago (unless maybe for a shaft, but not the head). It's still an old beaten up thing. Even the mill marks on the face are (almost) gone.

About it being on the cameron website ... i can't check it now, it seems to be gone. As far as i know scotty cannot advertise Tiger as a Cameron or Titleist player.

 

EDIT: It did went to the spa in 2006. Forgot about that one. They actually even did some lie adjustments etc. i believe
