True Temper X-7A3 Graphite shaft Prototype

I have tried many shafts over the years and have been on an all out quest to find the shaft that fits my swing and after many nights searching on this site looking some opinions on what the most tip stiff was I stumbled upon this shaft called the Temper X-7A3 Graphite shaft which I was told was extremely tip stiff and it even states it right on the shaft. I managed to pick up a pull on ebay and then installed it into my J33r as I use it as a benchmark to measure spin from shaft to shaft. Now I have tried many shafts including the diamana whiteboard, aldila protopype, fujikura VTLT, ozik TP7x , and countless others and could never manage to get my spin down to where I liked it but this shaft is at least 500RPM less than any shaft I have tried in terms of backspin. My swingspeed averages around 113 MPH and with this shaft coupled with a J33R 10.5* head I am launching the ball @14 degress with a ball speed of between 160-165 with only 2200RPM of backspin and it is consistent which give me carry yardage around 280 but the difference is the ball will roll out with the spin only being 2200. I contacted True Temper and they told me this shaft was only in its testing phase and only the PGA players and the guys on the Nationwide tour have access to these shafts and the shaft itself would be available in the spring of 2009. I cant wait till they release this shaft to the public and if you are a high spin player like myself this shaft might do wonders for your game

Hi, I am interested in this shaft as well as the ust axiv core shafts. I was wondering if you had a chance to test those, and what your thoughts were between the two.

very glad i read this thread... i have a 9.5* j33r/vtlt combo right now that i love - but have a x-7a3 waiting at the house for my 8.5* j33r to arrive (should be here today or tomorrow). can't wait to rip into this driver!

 

oh yeah... thanks to cashback discount i also have an 8.5* ft-iq tour coming for pure science. should i consider pulling the fubuki 63x in the ft-iq for the x-7a3? i will need to play both combos before i make a switch, but a j33r/fubuki combo could be dynamite!

Sorry I havent had a chance to try that shaft but I did try the axiv-v line of shaft the 8080 shaft and it was a very nice shaft 2.8* of torque and I believe it it is around 80 grams and it does have a buttery feel but I believe I spun that shaft around 3000RPM which isnt bad but nothing like this shaft. Its funny I thought this prototype shaft was going to be a piece of rebar after waggling it back and forth but it is actually quite smooth, I am surprised. I dont know what this shaft is comprised of and I have no way to measure the tip stiffness but it must be pretty stiff to knock my spin down into the low 2000's, but I will continue to test this shaft in various heads to see what kind of numbers I get, stay tuned

The guys at Golf Galaxy were less than enthused when they could not get my spin rate under 3000 with their equipment, but along comes the old trusty j33r with this prototype and after several swings on the simulator and spin rates ranging from 1900-2300 they were scratching their heads asking where the hell did you get that shaft we want in :rolleyes:

I have one of the X-hb6 hybrid shafts in an Adams A2p and love it. Definatly one of the best Hybrid shafts around. I heard that these shafts will be part of the Tour Concept program in the spring.

Right now they can be had on the bay for some pretty low bids, but when they come out I think the price point is going to be higher, so grab them up before everyone gets in the know.

 

I was lucky enough to get my hands on one of the softer flexes (6C4) and in my FT-5 so far its been great. Smooth feeling, not boardy but keeps the spin rate down.

what kind of kick point is this?? i really liked the epic but felt it was a bit spinny.. is this close as far as feel?

I got this shaft in a superquad tp and it just bombs the ball! spin rate is about 1000rpm lower than with my old X-stiff V2. You should see the ball run when it hits the ground. This is the best shaft available for a high spin player with a swing speed over 110 mph.
