Changed from 909D3 back to 905R

I wasn't pleased with the 909D3 with the "Made for Titleist" Diamana stiff shaft ... shorter and not as many fairways as my previous two drivers (907D2 with VS proto S & 905R with V2 S), so I've gone all the way back to the fairway finder the 905R 9.5 with V2 67X shaft.

 

Found one in almost brand new condition at my golf shop for $99 with the V2 X in there. Took it on the launch monitor and found it to outperform both my D3 with the MFT Diamana S and a 909D3 8.5 with a V2 76X.

 

To boot, I got $349 back for my D3 (90 day return policy), which allowed me to not only get a better performing 905R, but also a brand new Scotty Cameron Newport Studio Select putter ... even trade. What a deal!

Wow, totally different shaft types, and went from S to X.

 

Finding the proper shaft is THE most important piece of the puzzle. Sounds like you have found yours. Good lesson for everybody, it's not all about the latest and greatest, it's about what fits your swing and preferences!

I have to agree, why did you choose the diamana over the voodoo? It seems to me that the voodoo in X is a closer match than the diamana. I have always fought a high spin rate, most players with a high swing speeds do, the 909 was a blessing over the 907 and 905. Just my opinion. Hey, whatever works, works. Glad to see you hitting a titleist!

I would also have to agree. My driver is not titleist but I have went through many drivers this season and finally found one I liked surprisingly it was a Cleveland XL. I never even thought about hitting one until one day I did and loved it and now I got one and have never hit a driver further or hit more fairways. So newer isn't always better.

I am very anxious to hear some real world experience with that shaft from you guys. I have heard it is an excellent performer with great feel.

What did you play in your 905R before you put in the Axivcore black 67X? I have been gaming my 905R and have refused to switch to another head. Best ever Titleist head in IMHO. However I currently have the V2 76 stiff and I am looking for any one who has switched from it in a 905R to the new Axivcore shaft. I am looking for a little more feel, a little less spin, and a little more carry than my V2 76.

I've had the V2 76 stiff in a 905r - regret the day I benched it... excellent combo as I'm sure ya'll already know.

 

I've also had a tour issued Diamana Blueboard 73X in a 905r - MAJORLY regret sending that away; damn GOLFWRX threads convinced me that X-stiff was too much... that thing was a Howitzer.

 

Recently I picked up my latest: spine-aligned UST Axivcore Black 69X in the 905r - after extensive eBay'idge and the MSN Cashback deal (I've admitted I have a problem, so I'm past the first stage of denial). Frigg'n Wisconsin winter has left me unable to try it out yet - it's snowing buckets as I speak. All that I can say is that is sure is purdy...

The normal V2 67X really blew away both 909s I tested it against on the launch monitor --- better trajectory, better spin numbers, better predicted carry, all at $250 less. It all hit me ... you know, I used to hit more fairways with the 905R (back when I hit it with a V2 76S) and it seemed longer. I was just all caught up in the 909itis that I felt I had to have it. Then, I searched for a more compatible shaft to get it back to my 905R performance (at additional cost of course). Then BAM, I wake up and decide to just take the direct route ... back to the 905R!

 

I couldn't be more pleased. Now, if I could just eak 2 more yards out of it using the UST Axivcore X shaft ... or another ... (oh no, I'm doing it again!) :wacko:
