I'm impressed with the fact that the kid can hit these irons. The paintfill is great as well. Did you get these direct from Callaway or did you order them from a retailer?

Nice work as usual. Were they out of long ferrules when you got those? I bet your son will love them either way, and based on his scores he deserves them. I love how a bunch of grown men can't accept that a "kid" that is 5 feet tall can outdrive them.

All I can say is that having a supporting father who is not willing to make sacrifices makes all the difference. I graduated from HS this past summer and was recently offered a D1 scholarship to play at UMD. I wish your son the best and hope you keep pushing him in the right direction!

Kingdaddy, this coming summer he will play in his first AJGA's. He has accumulated JAS exemptions this past year so he will play in a couple this coming summer. He didn't have the length to compete on the AJGA even this last summer and he has only been playing 4 yrs now. Stratton within a matter of a couple of months gained over 30yds in his drives. This last summer, he was driving the ball 210ish on average. When he had a quick growing spurt, he picked up distance quick.

Stratton does not like 1" ferrules. I originally put nice 1" ferrules on his Xforged set and he asked if I would switch them out for shorter ones. He likes the 5/8"ones. I have plenty of 1" but he only likes those on his wedges.

I applaud you Deerslayer....what a great example you are providing to him.....rest assured when your Grandchildren come around he will be an even better father to them than you were to him....if that is even possible.

 

Honestly, I think your involvement is where he gains a lot of his confidence on the golf course. He KNOWS your with him every step of the way...and I said WITH....not just there...BIG difference.

 

Anyone here over 20 years of age, can you imagine how much better you would have played at this age IF your parents were similarly involved? Im 40, 24 years since my parents had any influence in my life and I can FEEL the confidence I would have had back then if mine were involved like Deerslayer is. Almost like a "team".....great stuff

This is Stratton hitting balls at a Exhibition with a good launch monitor. He didn't even have his good shaft in that driver head and his avg. carry was 244yds. Cool pic with everyones head turned.

I have that exact set of irons but with Dynamic Golds as I have never got on with Rifle shafts. He will love them and the flight is so good especially on the short irons.

 

Love the paint, will mess with mine soon, and you know I have great respect for all you do for Stratton.

Stratton went in my workshop to get a tool and I caught him running out grinning ear to ear. I tried to lie and say I was working on them for someone, but he said "with MY grips and MY size" he wasnt buying what I was trying to sell. My fault for leaving them at my bench. :glare:

He is bummed today, for his tournament today was canceled due to weather when it is really not that bad.

From what I've been reading you're a great role model for your son. It's funny to think that Stratton can beat almost everyone reading this thread.. myself included..

 

I bet you those Proto's are going to drop his scores even more.. aside from the bling and wow factor, I think they are a tremendous step up from the X-Forged's FOR SURE! He'll definitely be able to hit shots that the X-Forged's will have a tougher time pulling off.

 

Let us know how he likes them.. I can't wait to hear about his first practice round and range session with them.

I use 60 minute epoxy made by Loctite. I had issues with a "noname" golf store epoxy one time and that "one time" was enough for me. I have big bottles of the Loctite glue and it has been a great performing glue. You can use a faster epoxy, but the last thing you need to have happen it to need to "rush" because your glue is setting AND if your glue starts to set before you have everything installed, the bond will not be nearly as good.

He hit these irons great in his first round with them today. They have a much more penetrating ball flight than the X forged. I don't think he missed a shot in our round today on a very tough track in 25-30+ mph winds! We have not seen wind this strong in a while. Stratton shot 75 on the Lake Creek Course in some incredibly tough conditions. He hit alot of long irons into the long par 3's today and hit some incredible shots. I noticed that he was hitting the same iron as I was into most of the par 3's today and he is not as big as my left leg. :rolleyes: We didn't talk a lot after or during the round,(we were playing against each other) but watching him, I can tell that he really likes them. I came home and he is with his friend playing another course right now, so I will ask him what the differences are and what he thinks when I pick him up tonight. Stratton deserved these irons for Christmas. He is a good kid that works hard and has great morals. This week, we have had some of the worst weather we have had this winter and Stratton has practiced every single day in the freezing temps and wind. Two of the days, there was not another single person on the course or range except for him.

Bwald, yes, I used these cclors: Translucent Red on sole numbers and "prototype" lettering, Smoke on "Callaway Golf" , Translucent Blue on underlines of 6 & 9 and on the "R" on the hosels. I double filled the "prptotype" so it is a dark red translucent fill.

below is a pic with them in his bag.

 

MediCaptain.........I took his old Cally X Forged heads and shafted my 6.0 Proj. X on them. I LOVE THEM. Played yesterday with them and they are SO much better than my old X20 Touis that I had. His Christmas worked as an upgrade for me as well:) As beautiful as those irons are, and as hard as it is for me to say this, I dont think that I have enough game any more to use the Proto's :black eye:

What grips does he use are they the Golf Pride New Decade MultiCompound?

He is pretty finicky when it comes to grips, On his wedges, he uses and likes the Golf Pride Patriot grips, (multi compound with no cord)

On all of his other clubs, he likes the Avon Pro Dx2 grips. They are like Golf Prides New Decade Grips minus the cord. He likes a firm tacky feeling grip.
