help me get fit for a golf ball

i have been tested before for golf balls, but can't trust them as they are paid by a company to sell a certain ball. so, it would be a huge help if you could help me. here are my "specs":

 

driver ss: 105mph

5 iron ss: 92mph

driver distance: 275

5 iron distance: 185

i have a high ball flight and would like to bring it down a little

i spin the ball a lot with my wedges and want to reduce it a little

current ball: ProV1x

average score: 74-78

tempo: medium-fast

control is more important than distance to me

want a soft feeling ball

I have pretty much the same specs except I usually shoot in the low to mid 80's. I recently used the Callaway Tour I and loved it. Very durable, straight, mid ball flight and stuck the greens. My only problem with them is the price. With this economy I just can't justify $45/dozen. Good Luck!!

^^^^i've tried those, and for some reason, they feel like plastic to me. it's like they resemble a cheap top-flite. i mean, i like how the ball flies and how it spins, i just can't seem to adjust to the feel of it. i've told many people this and they think i'm crazy for thinking this.

Srixon Z Star or Z Star x. Those balls are money. Spin like none other on the greens and are long like none other. Great ball and a tad bit cheaper. Give them a try. I love them so far. My other balls are the Pro V1 and the TP Red. the Z Star is definitely first

i played golf today with someone who played those today and he let me have a sleeve. they did feel great, but they spun A LOT. i guess it's just me because i am way too picky with spin. i can't wait until the new groove rule come in affect.

Your ss, ball flight etc are pretty much about the same as mine (but you hit the ball further than me) and I use the Prov1x. I did however recently try a Nike One Tour and was very impressed! Problem is I bought 4 doz Prov1x as they were on offer due to the new model so I won't be changing this season.

 

Worth a bat though!

I have same stats as the OP, maybe a hair faster. Check out the Maxfli tour fires if you want a cheap ball, to me they kinda remind me of the B330s and Dicks has them on sale right now. I also like the Callaway tour 56 that I'll stock up on from Lostgolfballs.com.

I will give another vote for the Maxfli tour fires. Dicks has them for 14 bucks or you can find them on e bay for a little less than that. great feel off all my clubs, very long off the tee and spin plenty with the wedges for me. Best ball for the $, I think!

Based on your comments on other balls that I've played, I'd recommend trying the Burner TP.

Zip is a great ball. Same with the Tour D. I personally play the Z star but like you said if it spins to much for you its understandable. We have about the same swing characteristics but I swing a tad bit slower. TP Red is a great ball as well. It depends on your liking. If you prefer a higher ball flight I would recommend the TP Black and if you recommend a lower ball flight I recommend the TP Red. To be honest if you can find them the old Nike One Plats are raw. They are all basically on clearance if you can find them. I think I saw a dozen for 30 or something at Dick's recently

Bridgestone B-330RX if you don't mind the $42 a dozen,

 

For those who want to spend a little less, the e-7+ is a great ball for the price... as is the Srixon trispeed, Callaway hx-hot plus.

 

Those would work great for your game.

for you who said wilson zip. i don't know what you are talking about. maybe it's me, but that is the worst feeling ball to me. and i do like taylormades a lot. i'll get some and try them out.

Which Taylormade are you gonna try??? I like the TP Reds the best. Haven't tried the new Black. The only complaint I have about Taylormade balls is it seems like they scuff so easily. I hit like three pitch/iron shots and the cover already is scuffed. I also get tons of spin with my wedges and it seems like my wedges easily rip the cover of. I have to scrap pieces of cover off my wedges at times. Even though it is kinda funny and pleasing to know im makin solid contact haha
