Z-Stars.... and I know this sounds crazy.

Well today I finally got to go play a round with my new Z-Stars, and all I can say is wow. And here is this crazy part, from my last round to this round I dropped 11 strokes, all strokes attributed to chipping. I was horrible around in the greens in the past, and when I hit this ball it goes one foot then hits the breaks; I've never played any ball that does it this well while be so durable. Now I'll be honest most of this is due to much more confidence then in the past, but I don't worry about the ball just rolling off the green, which in turn keeps me from duffing the ball by babying it. Well just thought I'd let yall know how much I like it and I know some people dont think players who shoot in the 90's should play premium balls well I do and I just broke 90 for the first time in a long time.

I remember when I started breaking 90, the game is so much fun when your getting better and breaking your best scores. It's good that you switched to a ball that improves your short game. They are so much easier to get up and down with.

I play the Z-URS and I love it. Looking forward to trying the Z-Star's when I run out.

Very good ball, torn between them and the TP black. Obviously the Srixon's feel softer but I always seem to score well with the TP's

I almost broke 90 (I'm a 24 handicap) and almost holed out a sand wedge from 90 yards in the deep ruff. It hit the pin, then rolled out a foot. The balls I used to play would've spun out and rolled to the back of the green. The balls spins on a 6 year old beat up vokey raw and I can spin back an 8 iron.

Well, CONGRATULATIONS on breaking 90! It's a milestone (trust me, it's been years where I've hung right at the 90 line and just could not bust the 1 less stroke to pop that bubble). So now look forward to shooting in the 80s and this ball will help. Just love it :)

I have a question about the 2 balls, i thought the z star was the higher spin ball, but the website says the x is higher spin. I have high swing speed so should play the X, but i want the lower spin version, so should i play the regular version? Any input would be great

This confused me too. I started with a sleeve of each to experiment thinking the X would be the ball for me because I have higher spin numbers. Typically the 'X' in any ball line is the firmer, lower spin ball. But I found the regular Z Star performed better with less spin, AND had a better feel. It's a win-win with this ball.

My advice is to try them both and see which one works better. I'm guessing you'll like the Z Star.

it sounds like i am about the same hcap as you are, been in the 80's three times only. i got some 19.99 closeout srixon zurs?? white box ones, can't remember which they are. They seemed to me to make a difference over the e6+ bridgestones i usually play. I bought a few dozen, should have bought 10dozen...

Long story short, i shall try a dozen of the z stars based upon your success! peter

Thanks Kevin, quick question though, what is your swing speed?

Thanks!

Good luck with your choice, Peter.

For reference, I'm a 4 handicap with a driver swing speed of 108-110 mph. I have no problem generating spin, so I choose a lower spinning ball to help control that. The Z Star is very good. It's definitely in the same class as other premium balls like the pro v1, Cally Tour i, TM TP Red LDP, etc.

Per the Golf Digest Test (10.5˚ @96mph)

Z-Star launches slightly higher than the X with slightly more spin.

On wedges (56˚), they again are very similar, with the Z-Star spinning slightly more and launching slightly higher than the X.

The Z-Star stats out close to the TP Black LDP, but probably feels softer.

That's what confused me. The Srixon website shows the Z Star is supposed to be softer, yet have lower spin off the driver. They tout both as being high spin on the 9 iron. The Z Star trajectory is supposed to be slightly higher. Also interesting is that Srixon says the Z Star should be closer to the TP Red.

They're both very good, but the Z Star was the winner for me. It's confusing for sure.

The Srixons Z Star, both, what a leap forward ! I wouldnt be surprised to see more Titleist Pros ball player switch like Boo & Vijay did. I know $ is the issue too. But not all times.

Part of the isuue with Jason Gore and Nike is that he never could get settled with a nike ball. He in the end demanded to play a Titeist Ball and Nike said Sia-Nora !

I am playing the Higher, better green control, Z Star. Even though I might be have a S S of 110 mph.

Titleist balls are better for 2009, and look at the Masters top finishes- still #1 by far.

Update, I played again today, and again broke 90 I shot an 86. Man I love this game, its becoming much more fun, I know an 86 is not awesome, but I am thrilled with that score.

Congrats!

Agreed the Z Star is the Best ball out imho

I played three rounds of golf last Saturday (total 54 holes) with Z star.

1st round shot 92, 2nd round shot 99 (because I was having pains on back and headaches), 3rd round shot 87.

All three rounds were played by 3 Zstar balls (one was lost because of I had bad slice into the woods)

Two other balls are playable condition without major cuts and will use them again next weekend.

I hit balls into the trees and cart paths, these balls are in mint condition after the 54 holes.

One thing I noticed was (and according to my low handicapped friend I played with), my chipping has improved a lot. I think major change was the Zstar and practicing with the Zstar.

It is extremely durable ball for such soft around green ball and gives me consistency which I need around the green since I have bad touch.

Once again, I am a firm believer of the Zstar and fits my game well

I too could not figure out which ball to get. I just went with x because I have a decent (112 - 115 mph) swing speed and play the x ball in the other lines......I like the ball and still have a dozen of them to go through...but I am always wondering now if I should have gone with the regular z star. It would seem everybody thinks it is the better ball of the two for the higher swing speeds. I guess when I am done playing out this last dozen Z star x's I will pick up a dozen of the regular z stars and see what's what......It would be real cool if I liked them even more than I like the x's.

No problem! I'm not insulted by your comment. I'm more insulted by the fact I used to be a 1 handicap and now struggle to break 80 on a regular basis. :vava:

Shoot me a PM next time you're in town and want to play some golf.

For the first time I can ever remember I own only one model golf ball...and that's the Z-Star. It's outstanding in all aspects. I see myself playing these for as long as I can get my hands on them.
