I am waiting for the new version of the Sky Caddie to come out before I buy one. Is there any word or any idea when a newer model will come out?

This is what the Rep. showed me a Golf Galaxy. Another reason why I stick with Skycaddie and Skygolf, they are about features a good player can use and not about Gimmicks.......FYI, he also said this was a software upgrade and no need to go out and buy a new unit

How long will it take for them to add this feature to all courses though? I would think its labour intensive, and the margin for error is HUGE.

 

The statement "Not all greens on courses and not all courses have significant changes in elevation to require this feature." doesn't leave me with the warm fuzzies either. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

The only charge I paid was for adding the additional 10 courses. All changes in software has downloaded automatically when connected.

Maybe that is true for updates that fix bugs, etc., but didn't they charge for the latest one that added features such as the ability to store more courses and a few other minor improvements? Maybe they will use this and try to jump in on the "course for a fee" model used by uPro and others for their "pro mode" courses.

What I was told is that if you have bought a new unit in the past2-3 months os , not sure the exact date and have the expansion package, this will be free when avaialbe. If you have a unit that is older that that, you will pay a one time fee on $20 if you choose. i think it's a fair price, if you want it you will pay, if you don't your unit still works, just with out this feature. Just my 2 cents.....

I am not sure if I should but this model or wait for the new one? I think I would rather wait until the new model comes out.

I've got an SG5 and I've only used it 3-4 times, but I love it. I really questioned whether it was worth getting but it's soo nice to have accurate distances at your fingertips. I found the GPS on the cart I was in was off by 20 yards this past weekend. I would have never known better (or questioned it) without the SG5. My SG5 matched to within a yard of the course markers FYI. This new green feature should be nice. Not gave changing nice, but just another step to prove that Skygolf is committed to making the best GPS out there.

Without the course layouts and an anypoint mesuring feature, there already way behind. Not to mention the $50.00 you have to spend every year and the fact that it only holds 20 courses at max. This feature is nothing special in my opinion.

I get a kick out people who knock paying the fee every year. Yet no one seems to complain about the $300-$400 they pay for a new driver or set of irons they buy every other year or the $45 they pay for a dozen balls that get lost in a week or two. I would bet if one were to add up what they spend on an average year in golf, they would be surprised to find how they blow there money. Even if others are charging nothing or next to nothing, the old saying goes. ( You get what you paid for) If you don't think you should pay fee's, check you cell phone, cable or satalite bill you pay ever month. These are all sucessful businesses and provide you with the latest and greatest technology with a monthly fee. This feature is Big in my opinion because as a good player, i want this info. to better my chances at scoring, wouldn't you? You won't see this feature from companies that do video fly overs, or satalite images and good luck laser copmanies......If you want the best Maps, the best Info. then skygolf is for you. If you want Gimmicks, there are a ton out there.. go get em.....

I just wish they did something with the scoring feature. I input my score and putts every round then it does nothing. Seems like some simple web programming could sync this with your online account and track all your stats pretty easily though. At a minimum track your handicap.....

Well...I synced my 2.5 this AM and received an update. In typical Sky Golf fashion, I have no idea what it is for...I have to believe from this topic it might be for the green slope feature? I don't see anything different and my greens have some pretty decent slopes and false fronts.

 

You would think you may have to re-download courses to your device to get the new data? I know not all courses have been mapped yet...but a few instructions for "beta testers" might be nice??

 

Maybe this was just another upgrade to fix an unseeable problem in the system?

Same here, I actually synced mine last night to add a few course for the weekend and got an update. Whether it was this so called beta or not I have not idea. I re-d/l'd my courses but don't see anything different (mostly NE Florida tracks).

 

Connected again this AM to see if any new downloads pops up and nothing.

 

Point is kinda mute, I am 95% sure I am picking up a uPro this afternoon anyway.

you: Is it related to the much rumored intelligreen plus beta testing?

XXXXX: It is something that the development team is working on. I do not have the specifics, but yes it is related to the Intelligreen plus.

you: So its not something that would look any different to me? Is there any normal SG5 users that are helping to beta the intelligreen plus or is SkyGolf doing all of the testing?

XXXXX: We are expecting the first round of releases soon, that may be the release we are waiting for. There has been no mention of it to us yet.

XXXXX: I just had that verified.

you: Ok, thanks. Will SkyGolf provide a list of courses once they release the first round of updates? That would be helpful

XXXXX: That is the first release

XXXXX: There are a few hundred courses on that update. There are more to come.

you: Do you have a list of those courses?

XXXXX: We are hoping to get them all released soon. No I am not able to get a list.

XXXXX: The only way for you to know at this time is for you to pull up the courses and look at the green icons on the intelligreen screen.

XXXXX: All you should need to do would be to open the favorites list and click the download to my skycaddie button.

you: Ok, any timeline for the next wave of courses with the intelligreen plus update? Also, anything forthcoming on the birds eye view feature that was talked about at the same time as intelligreen plus?

According to the first post and the pictures provided, it said, "Not available on SG1, SG2 or SG2.5 Lite" which leaves the SG3, SG4, SG5 and SG2.5

Three of which are monochrome screens so there must be some shading differences for the contours??

Just an FYI, I have an SG2.5 and synced it this afternoon. The version I got was 3.32 which during a live chat with Skygolf CS they confirmed was the latest release. The rep also said the following regarding Intelligreen Pro ...

 

"We have not yet released the Beta Version for the Contours of the Green feature. Thank you for your interest in the new features. We are really excited about these features and know that SkyCaddie customers will find these features helpful. We don’t have an exact availability date yet. Please check your email or our website for availability."

 

I did have "update" listed next to my home course in my favorites and the rep said this as well about it ...

 

"If a course is listed on your Favorites list with "update" next to it, then you should see the same course listed near the bottom of the list without "update" next to it. If you click the course near the bottom, then click Download to SkyCaddie, the update will take place."
