Under $150...

I really need a new 3wood. What, would you suggest for under or around $150? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

If you are good at playing woods off the grass and can get decent height on the ball go with the Nike t-60. If you need help getting the ball in the air from the fairway go for a Callaway Steelhead III (had one and loved it dearly)

Look for some used Nike SQ's. They can be found for under $150 used as both of mine were and they both were in like new condition. Pull the stock Diamana's (if they don't suit your swing) and sell them as pulls and replace with the shafts of your choice.

 

I have an NV 85 now in my 3 wood and NV Proto 105 in my 5w and they are giving the original Steelheads that I have played for years a serious run. I have tried all kinds of fairway woods in the past and the original Steelhead has always been the best for my swing, but the SQ fairways really are an excellent fairway wood and so far have been better than the Steelhead in all aspects.

 

Original Steelheads can probably be had for half of the SQ though if you want to stay under $100 per.

The Nike T60 for sure. I have the T60 as well as the Sasquatch and prefer the T60 still at the time being. They can also be had BRAND NEW shipped for $80.00 which is a steal!!!! Pm me if you would like to know where. Hope this helps.

I agree with the posters above. Really can't go wrong with the Taylormade V-steel or Nike T-60. Both very versatile and economically priced right now.

The Bridgestone J33 3W is a great club. Super solid, reminds me of a cross between my old SS02 and 904F.

I have gone thru most of the OEM 3 woods.My current is the Adams RPM Ti.It originally was around $249.00.I think you could find a new one for around $100.00.Its a pretty decent club.fairly forgiving and long.The 15* I have is as long as some of the 13* & 14* I have had.

v steel...i picked up an ignite for a good deal but I'm not too fond of it. Shoot me a pm if you're interested its hit maybe 20 balls. I think I just like the shallower face and overall design of the v steel more

V-Steel all the way!! I have the 3,5,7. All with stiff steel shafts. Very nice feel and good balance. I really have to try and swing poorly to get these to fly offline. They are good from all lies, and the 5,7 are great out of the thick stuff.

I think there's a bunch of fairway woods out there for less than $150. Much depends on what you want and can hit. I bought an Adams Ovation 3 wood and 4 wood over the Winter from an internet golf site. They have regular flex, Aldila graphite shafts, and get the ball up SO easy. They were on sale, new, for $39.95 each. One of the best purchases, for me, in quite a while. They're not as glamorous as some more popular "name" stuff, but so far I think they'll do the job for me just fine.

V-Steel, 980F, Big Bertha 2004, Launcher Ti, T60, J33... any/all can be had for under $150 if you look in the right place, and they can all be great clubs - depends in large part on the shaft installed and which (if any) suit your particular swing mechanics, speed, etc.

 

Don't overlook the possibility of a low-lofted hybrid either. A lot of people have better luck with 14*, 15*, or 16* hybrids than they do with a traditional 3W. Particularly off the deck.

I really lucked out when I started playing by picking up a V-Steel just because of the price. Now I have a 3 and a 5 and even as bad as I am I can hit these pretty straight and pretty long (for me) off the tee or off the turf.

can't go wrong with a V-Steel. Great off the tee or the deck and now you can get a new one at a reasonable price or a slightly used one for a great price if you take your time.

i've got to go with the nike t-60 and taylormade v-steel love. both awesome woods. t-60 are a little deep faced, but easy to hit off the deck and an absolute cannon off the tee. v-steels are shallow face and are real real easy to hit off the deck and a little high/soft off the tee. both can be had new for under $100.

You can't go wrong with the old Callaway s2h2 tour 3. You can find them on ebay. In most cases I'd recommend a shaft change from the memphis 10.

Hit ebay for the Callaway X fairway, I picked up a 13* w/fujikura reg shaft for $147.00 and just love it.

I also like the v steels. TM is blowing them out so they can push the R7 fairway woods. Can be had cheap, brand new for around 110-120. I use steel shafts in my 3 5 and 7.
