Playing lessons from the pro's last night

Anybody watch?

I thought last night's episode with Charlie Hoffman and Luke Wilson was awesome. Might not have been one of the most informative episodes I've ever watched, but it definitely was probably the most entertaining. I was cracking up when Luke got supposedly got the phone call from Bob Rotella and he's repeating, 'I'm a champion', and 'I'm a silverback running in the jungle'.

I will admit I was slight bit jealous cause I was in Vegas a couple weeks ago, and unfortunately time and money didn't allow for golf when I was there, but the one day we were taking the monorail up the strip and it runs right along side the Wynn golf course that they were playing on the show. It looked awesome...especially that waterfall.

Luke Wilson is hilarious.

 

Charlie's tip on chip-putting is worth it's weight in gold.

 

I get the whole "go green" thingy but that glove/shoes don't work for me.

 

Charlie seemed a bit more serious than I expected, projected that anyway.

 

Did it appear to you that Charlie intentionally gave Luke an "over-read" on that last putt.......and kind of snickered about it to himself?

 

Wynn looks like a beautiful course.

I was in vegas a few weeks ago, and didnt realize there was a course that close to the strip, other than Vegas national (which I understand is a goat ranch amongst crack houses). We played Silverstone, which is about 20 minutes or so off the strip. Nice course, but didnt look near as lush as the Wynn course.

 

Just looked at their website, and for $375/round for summer weekend golf, I cant say I'm upset about not playing it. That is just ridiculous.

I agree with you on their rate for golf.

 

But one thing I noticed about Wynn is that they are real high roller place for sure.

One of my friend works at Vegas as dealer told me onece that some of the dealers pay to get the job in Wynn casino because their income is way better there than other places due to high priced games and big spenders.

Bali Hai is at the end of the strip on the other side of Mandalay Bay. It's a nice layout but overpriced as well.

I stayed at the Wynn during my trip to Vegas a month ago. It's an extremely nice place to stay, and really not as expensive as I thought. I was very surprised when I saw the course rates. My room had a view of the golf course, but it looks much nicer from ground level.

That course looked PRISTINE. That was amazing. I don't think I'll ever play on a course like that!

Sounds like the rate has gone down. The wife and I were staying there back in October of 2006 and I thought the rate was right at $500. Like $475 or so.

 

Maybe the economy has something to do with it. Who knows.

 

They were doing maintenance at the time so I didn't get to play.

 

I thought you had to stay there in order to play as well. At least back then I think that's how it was. Could be wrong. Slept since then.

 

The Wynn is nice. Great views from the rooms on the strip side too.

 

I thought Charlie would have been a little more loose too. I think they both had a good time. Would love to see the outtakes.

I played the wynn course in september, fantastic layout, fairly easy course. Besides the 110 deg weather i had a great time. Not worth the 300-400$ to play but if you gamble enough they throw in a comp round.

Luke seemed like he was trying to take the taping in a fun and light-hearted direction but Charlie came across as super-uptight and was almost talking over Luke in spots. Perhaps he was just nervous and talking/babbling. That being said, the boy has some game.

Charlie hits flat out Bombs! Luke manned up by playing the tips with Charlie.

 

I think the over read was unintentional but being he was on the same line it was funny because he then knew the line was left edge, as Luke had initially read.

When Luke was doing the Rotella skit (which was hilarious btw) I could swear Charlie was getting upset, if you listen to it he has like a "Ok, great, hit the ball" attitude in his voice. The other thing Luke had to have been soooooooooooooo hungover because he seemed a few steps slow the entire day.

It's a style another former tour pro taught me a while back --- you have to watch to learn. ;)
