How do you mark your golf balls? (Merged)

Identifying marks

I'm curious. Several guys I play with don't bother to put any type of identifying mark on their golf balls. Since they'll jump on the same brand bandwagon from time to time they'll play the same ball and only rely on the # on the ball to tell them which ball is theirs. They're not the brightest knives on the tree, er... sharpest bulbs in the drawer..

I use a Pro V1 and put a "putting aide" straight line on the same axis as the <-PRO V1-392-> but on the opposite side of the ball and dots on both sides of the PRO V1 text.

What identifying mark do you put on your ball and if you don't, why not? :golfer:

when i played prov1.. i put 3 green dots in a triangle.

I put a red dot above the "T's" in Titleist. My school colors are red and white, thus the red.

pretty easy to identify, especially when someone putts with it - which i've had to call people on a couple of times. was relieved to know i didn't lose my ball though.

Callaway HX Tour 56. 3 dots together with any color marker. 3 is the perfect score so, I figured why not. I've done it for 10+ years.

I don't mark my ball. Never have.

 

I don't stick with a specific brand either. I've used just about anything as long as it's been a good quality ball (eg Pro V, B330, Z-UR, UR-X, Tour LT, NOG, NOB, you name it.)

 

No real reason other than laziness I suppose, and it's never come back to haunt me. I suppose one day I'll play a wrong ball and it will though. No doubt from that day on I'll mark my ball religiously. :golfer:

I wright "MY BALL" on my balls. Never yet seen anyone else do it.

3 dots in no particular place really except i put them on both sides of the ball with an orange sharpie. If u spread the dots out a little then no matter how the ball ends up you can always see at least one of your dots so u dont have to pick the ball up or move it at all to check.

Did you actually notice that that particular ProV1 ball which GolferGal2009 kindly provided for us to use as a visual aid is actually a HX version of them ProV... you can actaully see the hexagonal dimples.

This Is How How I Mark Mine:

 

1) Line With Black Sharpie From The < All The Way Around To The > And Not Through ''ProV1''

2) Mickey Mouse Logo Thingy Formed By Colouring In 3 Dimples With A Black Sharpie

Three dots, and a Dash, which is Morse Code for my initials S.T. If the ball I'm using doesn't have a straight alignment logo, I use it for lining up my shots on the tee or green.

weird, me too. I've been doing it for about two years now. I figured no one really covers up the number of their ball . . .

 

wait, when you say over the number- do you mean above it? I color in a blue dot "on" the number, so my golf balls are Titleist blue dot's or Nike blue dot's.

Used to mark them as "LOST", "BUNKY" or "OUCH!"

 

Previously, I didn't use anything since oddly enough I was the only one playing either a NXT Tour or PROV1x in my usual foursome.

 

Now that I've started playing the NPDSS due to the Consumer Review article, I may do the dot or straight line thing. Maybe even cover up the entire number on the ball with black ink. I just hate scrubbing Ink off of my clubs. 409 usually takes the marks off, but until I clean them the marks remain.
