PING i15 Iron review

Nice review. After being fitted and trying just about every iron on the market, I decided on the Ping i15/AWT stiff shaft. I've played them about 10 rounds and my scores keep getting progressively better. Shot a 77 last weekend. Love the irons, love the ball flight, feel, distance, etc. And i thought nothing could tear me away from my Mizuno's. :smilie_ping:

What is your swing speed with an iron? Do you pick the ball or hit down on it?

I was fitted for the i15, black dot with x100 in January and I've thoroughly enjoyed these irons ever since. A lot of it is probably that I got fit for them at a PING certified center so it helps me with the confidence that I am playing what is fitted for me and this gives me the best chance for success.

I like the look of the irons and actually like the decals in the cavity. I was initially worried that they might get beat up and fall off, but no headcovers and so far the irons are holding up really well. The feel is good enough for me as I can tell when I hit them solid. They are very forgiving with misses out on the toe, which is my common miss. There are times when I can feel that I hit one off the toe and the shot ends up about where I would have expected for a solid hit.

Where I really like these irons are in the 4-6 irons. I have always been pretty solid with the 7-PW and have been just ok with the 4-6 irons to the point where if I have 4-6 irons yardage into grees, I was honestly happy just to be within 5 yards of the green. With the i15, if I have a decent lie, I am expecting to hit the green with the 4-6 irons.

As noted in the original review, if I had to pick a weakness, it would be how the long irons play in the rough. But I am probably more confident hitting the i15 long irons out of the rough than I was with my previous set of X-22 long irons.

Played 6 holes with a set of standard i15's with DG S300 shafts. Nice feeling sticks, but unlike the OP I had a terrible time getting jumpers out of any kind of rough (while I played 6 holes I played 3 balls a hole). Nice feeling clubs, solid feel and easy enough to hit, but the lofts were very similar to what I am used to hitting and I had a couple just jump like knuckle balls. Just my very limited experience. I like the looks of the clubs myself, not as nice as a pure blade but not bad either.
