Gosh these irons feel so good and play really well.

I wanted them so bad but just like the reviewer I can't deal with the decals and cavity design emblems. They are traditional PING style, but the emblems are baaad. Cheap. I think someone at PING got their kid who is first year design student in college to design the graphics. :)

Have had mine for two months now and I agree with the OP. My only complaint is the toe weighting (I dont need any help turning the club over and infact now have an issue with too much of a draw with shots) and the stock AWS shafts (they get the ball really high in the air). Dont agree they are best irons ever (MP 32s hold this title for me) but they are pretty damn good.

The toe weight is added to optimize the COG and for added forgiveness, not to promote a draw! The weight is too far below the equator of the club to cause you to turn the club over. The cause is much more likely the combination of AWT shafts and D0/D1 swingweight!
Would a toe weight promote a draw? A driver that pomotes a draw typically is heel weighted, is it not?
Heel weighting would promote a draw, toe weighting should promote a fade, plus I am sure Ping designed these for mid to low handicap players and they are pretty neutrally weighted, I would check the lie angle and the shaft if you are over drawing them.

Great review. I recently got fitted for some i15s. Love them. Went to the fitting set on the MX-300s or AP2 710s but I hit the flagstick during the i15 demo with the 7 iron from about 165 and I was sold. Dispersion was tighter for me with the PING irons. To me the PINGs feel nearly identical and the AP2 710s and are far more forgiving. Mizzy's felt better but still got better results with the i15s. No reason to spend the extra $$ on the Titleist clubs IMO...and I have never really liked any PING irons. The i15s are simply easier to hit and have very nice feel for me. Ended up ordering a set of the i15s and wont look back. Tested out the PING Tour W wedges as well and I was putting one on top of another. Great clubs.
I'm close to ordering my i15's and I'm between shafts, having hit both the AWT and the Z-Z65. Anyone have any comments/thoughts on either of these choices. I'm 51, play to a 7.6 index and have a 97 mph S/S with the driver.
I haven't used them but I've heard very mixed reviews of the AWT. Usually ballooning is the complaint. The ZZ65 is a great and proven shaft. Friend of mine got the G10s with ZZ65 and they work great. His S/S is about like yours.

Z-Z65 plays stiffer than a DSGS-300 and is in between a stiff and a X in flex. It's also quite a bit more harsh than the AWT's IMO. I've got a driver swing speed around 100 MPH and I went with the AWT in stiff because I didn't see the point in soft stepping the Z-Z65 2x to get it to more of a stiff frequency when the feel was still going to be harsh. I also hit the AWT's just fine and I actually liked my trajectory better with the AWT than with the others I tried. As others have said be sure to hit the longer irons in the AWT to make sure they don't balloon on you. Lots of KBS Tour fans on here but they just were not for me.

I agree - I tried a few different shafts but the AWT's just worked best for me in these irons; good trajectory and tight dispersion. I tried the ZZ65 and it just didn't load that well during my swing, but I had the EXACT same distance and flight during the fitting, which I know is weird. I went with the AWT because I just liked how they felt.

Make sure you try a bunch because it seems like the choice of shaft makes a huge difference in how much you'll like these clubs.

Erasmus did you get fitted for your irons or did you just like the feel of the KBS Tour better?. Ping dont charge much extra for the KBS and they should be a much better shaft than the AWT. I am very curious if they are a good fit for average joe's like us or solely for use by a tour pro. The ZZ65 is like a piece of scaffolding!. No give whatsoever.

I got fitted. There was not much difference between shafts. The zz65s were slightly better performers for me, but not much. I took the trade off of feel over performance. I'm a 12 HC so the additional performance was way less then variance in my swing.

I've tried all 3 shafts (KBS Tour, AWT, ZZ65) + 1 more (Nippon 950) and the Nippon produced higher ball speeds, less spin and more carry + overall distance. The KBS was a close 2nd, followed by ZZ65 and then AWT. The Nippon was a full 12 yards longer than the AWT.

Of course these were my results and your results may vary. My testing was done at the PING factory.

I've been hitting the AWT shaft a lot while demo'ing the i 15. I have yet to find a place to try a Nippon (850 or 950) shaft. You really saw that much difference in the AWT and Nippon, huh? It may benefit me to look a little more, because one of the things I'm looking for is a lighter shaft (51 and not getting any younger) and it looks like the Nippon is significantly lighter. If I might ask, about how much of an upgrade in $$$ is the Nippon per club?

Wow... That is a quite a bit of difference between the awt and the nippon. I found a large difference in distance between the reg and stiff flex in the awt in my i10's . The r flex spun the ball way to much for my swing and came up a club short of the stiff flex.
In your test was the the nippon and awt the same flex?

Thanks gb

I actually ended up with the AWT in stiff. I'm a low-mid ball hitter to begin with and the AWT's actually worked out very well for me. Also tried the Z-Z65 (similar results as AWT) but they were pretty harsh feeling IMO. Tried the KBS Tours after all the hype on this forum but they were not for me...hit them too high and dispersion was not as tight. Didn't try the Nippons. I did, however, order them at D2 swingweight. Standard weights with stiff AWT are between C9 and D0.
