Looking for a driver for my old man

He's 62 w/ about 85-90 mph ss

Hey guys whats up.

I am trying help to my dad find a new driver for 2010. He is where I get the club ho'ing from. He has had alot of drivers over the years the Diablo, Hi bore XL, Nike 5000 but found the success w/ the original Hi-bore cut down to like 44.5". After buying and using a new driver he would always go back to the Hi-bore.

He is extremely straight. A hook or slice for him is hitting the left or rightside of the fairway or just running into the rough.

I think he likes the Hi-bore because its not that bid of a head like the Diablo or any those waffle makers on a shaft.

I am thinking maybe a Speedline Fast 10 or 9032. Anyone actually gain clubhead speed and distance over a regular head?

I like for him to be fitted but our Dick's Sporting Goods sucks. They just got the original Speedline driver . For adams gear we usually get the left overs after big price reductions. There launch monitor just does launch, spin and swing speed, and is very unconsistent. Also there is no fitting carts or anything like that either. So usually it the one stock shaft and thats it to demo.

Looking for suggestions, I suggested
- ADAMS Speedline 9032
- ADAMS Speedline Fast 10
- PING G15

Any of these should work pretty well for him. Sure there are a few others I didn't mention as well. The DST might help him get his SS up a touch as well. The Rapture V2 almost always wins the distance battle when people with slower SS are looking to gain yards in my experience.

I'm not sure what kind it is but it looks like it's made out of persimmon... It should match up with his club head speed nicely.

OH yeah forgot about the DST.

The Rap V2 is out of his price range probably. Maybe he can find a good used one somewhere.

Actually I have a G10 10.5* that I want him to hit but it has a V2 65 stiff in it. I told him to buy a cheap shaft and try it out but he has never boughten just a shaft before and probably never will. He says I crazy for having 4 setd of iron shafts and 5 extra driver shafts. So he probably wont get one to just stay true to what he said about waisting money on shafts.

Hi.For what its worth I recently got a Taylor Made R9 460. Best ever. It gave me the ability to alter the club face to optimise my ball flight. Carry about 230 metres.I also obtained a couple spare ferrules and have a custom shaft I can switch to if I want a flatter flight for links type courses. I`m 68

I am 68 yrs old with SS of about 85 and I love my Titleist 905S. I bought it from EBay for $50. It has a grafalloy blue, regular shaft. It just seemed to match my swing perfectly. I highly recommend it.

I don't think you can go wrong with the new Adams speedline fast 10. My understanding is this club would be good for a smooth and slower swinger. Maybe the club might need to be shorter but that should be no problem. I'm thinking about one for myself and I'm only 50 but I have a slow mph swing because of a bad back. It's worth a try. I am 61 and just replaced my 5+ year old Titleist 905T with a DST tour..For me it is sooo much easier to swing. The distance is the same..

I am 59 with swing speed around 90 and last summer purchased Ping G10 soft regular shaft 12 deg - Now finding more fairways !

Recommend the 2009 Cleveland Launcher, 11 degree loft, senior "A" flex shaft. I am 70 years old, swing speed 82 MPH and used to play the Cleveland HiBore. Launcher works better for me.

One off this sites sponsors GPPGOLF is almost giving away Adams Insight tech a40os drivers away. $60.00 a pop Im 63 and have trouble off the tee so I bought 2 of them one with a regular shaft and one with a senior shaft. Both shafts are made by Graphite Design ysQ-HL. Being in Wisc I have not hit either one,but for the price I could not resist.....it does seem to me that the senior shaft is a bit whippy, but time will tell. you could go to the Adams Golf site there rep talks about them.

I/m 63, also very accurate off the tee, s/s was 81 but it's gone up some after getting the Cleveland Launcher [u]Ultralite Edition[/u]. It only comes one way 46.5" 40g shaft, 38g grip, sub-300g head and 12* loft (the loft may have something to do with a flatter lie angle and if it doesn't it's still a good ego-saving statement.)

Golfsmith said they were a special order and didn't have any demos - took a chance and bought it on ebay practically new for $90, including S&H from 3ballsgolf.

I've read lots of discussions and the negative posts say maybe a slight increase in distance (the sweetspot will be harder to hit at that length) and expect a large decrease in accuracy.

On the other had I'm accurate (miss 2 or 3 fairways/round and not by nuch) short (with my 11* Callaway FT-i and all previous driver) and curious/desperate. I also read longer shafts really help slow swingers and others with certain flaws like overusing arms, early release and coming over the top (my achilles heel).


1st Round Results - just what the naysayers said - little or no extra distance, big misses. But I had a John Daly mind-set, ignored everything I learned and went at it like the Tasmanian Devil.

Driving Range - New Driver, 7 iron and wedge. Recaptured my tempo with iron and wedge, then added in the driver. WOW

Round 2, 3 etc. This will sum it all up. On the 18th hole there's a 10 foot stream that requires 180 yard carry; in perfect conditions - the only way I'll attempt it - 30% of my drives clear it, usually by less than 10 yards. Two weeks ago, 37* and soggy fairways I was over by 30 yards.

Cleveland designed this club for swings of 85 mph and less - they say expect 8 to 12 yard gains. I've borrowed the Adams' Speedline for a few rounds and they are very good but for me it's no contest.

I am about the same as your dad got fiited at local club with: Cobra S9-1 10.5* "a" shaft std length, really works for me.

have your dad get fit somehere that offers several mfg.choices, plenty of head and shaft selections and has launch moniter etc. it will really pay off.

He went w/ the G15 w/ the stock TFC shafft in regular.
