Good luck getting under 9. Looks like most of us are similar skill wise except oddshot who will wipe the floor with us!

Its odshot.. no double d's. LOL..Tiger is lower than me. Early in the season..it could be interesting. Jeff knows my game, its not that far from his..we had a great match against him and the head pro Donny for a 2 man Best Ball.

We'll see come May. I'm going to start with the excuses already -- I'll be coming to this outing from a Thursday-Saturday outing at Shanty Creek in Bellaire. I'll have played 81 holes in those three days, along with probably about that many beers (ok, maybe not quite that many). I often play another round on the Sunday after this other outing before heading home, and I have a history of my game completely leaving me on that Sunday. For example, last year during the official rounds of the outing, I shot 78, 76, 74, and then we played Hawk's Eye on Sunday, and I fired a smooth 85. So, I fully expect to be the guy that people accuse of having a vanity handicap.

Are we going to play from the tips? I hope so, especially if there is going to be money on the line.

I would also like to think that everybody playing will be playing the ball down. I've played with some lie fluffers that I've had to awkardly approach about their lies.

How do you guys handle the money? Pay first, then play and dish out the earnings. Or some other method I'm not familiar with?

I would like to see some variety in the games we play. We could do the blind draw for partners, then reset partners based on scores for the first 18.

I would like to see an optional skins game for individuals.

We could really mix it up and switch playing partners every 9 holes. Do some kind of stroke play eliminator type game, where the 2 low players in each group of 4, play the next 9 with 2 other winners from the other groups.

I would like to see winnings for gross and net scores.

I'm still wondering how we could incorporate some kind of a Match Play type game with everybody.

I'm not really going to take this too seriously. Of course (atleast I'm sure) there are no fluffy lie guys here. I don't care about the money but will play in money games. I just home to meet some wrxers and play a great course and have a beer or two or three and possibly a pack or 2 of cigarettes!!

This will be a blast, no doubt, but if you are going to bet money, that changes things. No shenanigans when there is money on the line

USGA rules of golf will apply. I don't think anybody will have a problem with that.
Suggested in a prior post we play 1 from the tips @7141 and 1 from the two tees @6549
The "go for it" opportunities from the two tees bring some interesting strategy differences intol play.
I think everybody will enjoy the difference, but majority rule. Let's hear it.

This is giving me an excuse to buy scoring software, so we can get as creative with multiple games as we want.

Suggested a $100 divided into the various game pots. Again, majority rule. Let's hear it.

Odshot68 (Bill I just made you treasurer) will collect it prior to the 1s round.

Just me, or did The Who suck?

Thanks Jeff...LOL.

Breakdown Idea:

Blind Draw for Partners
2 man Best Ball 1st 18 from tips (75% of handicap) $40
2 man Best Ball 2nd 18 from 2nd to back tees (75% of handicap) $40
Skins 1st 18 $10
Skins 2nd 18 $10

Handicaps will be determined prior to teeing off...and yes typical rules of golf apply.

I know that some of you wanted to play the tips both times...but you will get a completely different look from some of the boxes from one tee up. Just another great way to enjoy the Dunes.

$100 for betting is cool.

Can you book a block of times for sat. afternoon?

Once we have an exact count on how many for Saturday I'll book m'. No hurry. Bill and Josh are going to the Gailes and Red Hawk.
I live an hour and a half away and never played either, kinda want to go with them, but feel an obligation to the guys coming Saturday.
But it's olnly $20.00 more if I'm not there. Hmmmmmm what to do?

Which tees 4 U Kevin?

Tees - I don't care to be honest.

I'm not the type to play the tips just because - In fact I'd rather play the 2nd tees - 6500-6600 sounds like fun and scoring chances.

About an hour and 45 minutes away. We planned on driving to Grayling after Saturday golf then playing the dunes on sunday. Its a little drive, but I don't get many chances to get up north so we make the most of the 2 days we have. Last year we drove quite a bit as well, and it worked out fine. Saturday does make for a long day..but its well worth it.

I'm not opposed to switching tees -- I'm already thinking about some possibilities that will open up from the more forward tees -- a couple of Par 5s will become reachable, and it'll also make #17 driveable for more people. Though I think it's going to make #2 a tough driving hole for big hitters. I'll just be happy to play #16 from a reasonable distance. From the tips, I hit driver every time last year in two rounds, but I imagine playing from closer is going to bring some more strategy into play.

I haven't played Red Hawk, but I did play the Gailes last year. It's an interesting course, but it doesn't really feel natural in the setting where it's located. It's laid out in a big square area kind of in the middle of nowhere. But it's a fairly close approximation of a links experience (though there's not as many opportunities to play the ball along the ground as on a true links, and the greens are more receptive than on a real links), so it's a nice change of pace compared to other courses in the state.

Thinking about teeing off around 9am then again at 2pm in the afternoon. Not much time between the rounds and the drive is about 20 minutes. So will have to leave home about 5am. LOL what we do for golf.

tiger,
On the 1-2-3 best ball format per 4 some.. do you prefer that over a 2 of 4 best ball? Just curious. We are still trying to figure out the game format. Consensus appears to be a 2 man best ball from tips, then a 4 man team from 1 up..just deciding what game and how to figure out the money.

I like the 1-2-3 format, just for variety -- those 3-banger holes become really important, and it makes it so everyone on the team has to contribute. But I'm not married to it, and whatever the consensus is regarding the format is fine with me.

To all,

Nice job setting up the outing. It looks like it is growing in size.

I am from Michigan, but currently live in Lexington, KY. I caught this post by accident, but am interested in the outing as I have never played this course before.

My drive to the area would probably be 8+ hours, so my mind is struggling with the commit or not commit!! I could probably do some business up there so it would not be all bad.

Anyway, what I have decided on is to be on stand-by. If you get to 23 and need 1 more or decide that you need 1 more to keep the numbers correct, I will go. This way, I can convince my wife that a group of guys is counting on me to make the trip happen. LOL!! I could probably wait until 30 days before to commit so no need to act now.

I am a low single digit index, so it looks like I fit right in with the quality of golfers going.

I can be reach at "][email protected] if you want to take this off-line. Whether I make it or not, this should be a great trip and the price is certainly a steal!!
