Jeff and I have received a lot of positive feedback for this. I am meeting with Jeff next week and will discuss this further. I think it primarily should be a golf Wrx outing with around 24 guys. I know Jeff can give you a great rate but we don't want it to be a bring your own 4 some. We wanted to do this as a blind draw for partners and for everyone to have a established handicap. We think a blind draw format would be competitive yet fun as well. There will me more details after next week and we we're excited to host this.

What a great idea. I wish I could swing it but I wouldn't know for sure till later.

I am a native Michigander transplanted to the Nashville (TN) area. In my opinion there is no better golf on the planet than the Northern Lower Peninsula.

I will have to keep my eye on this to see if you fill up or not. There's a chance I could do it. But I'm already going to Vegas in May so it might be a bit much to do both.

Awesome deal guys! I'll be checking back.

Ok, so what's the minimum. I told one other guy about the potential opportunity, but nothing definite, so far, and haven't contacted anybody else. How many people is it going to take to get this event to happen?

The last thing I want to do, is tell somebody about it, and then have to tell them it isn't happening because I didn't really know what was going on with the event. That makes me look bad.

So, if you're short people, I have people, good people to invite. People that would bet with no problems. You just have to let me know what is going on.

It's almost like Jeff and Bill are the golf nazi's, like the soup nazi episode from Seinfeld. I don't want to rub anybody the wrong way, or "No Golf For You!" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZ3AOmZ2fps

I don't want any extra bread, I'm just trying to help you meet your goals and get your 24 people.

Jeff and I wonder what recommendations you guys have for games. Best ball 2 of 4, 1 of 2, individual net and gross, skins?? Lets hear your ideas.

I'm up for whatever, but if you decide on 4-person teams, allow me to suggest the 1-2-3 best ball format. Take the 1 best net score on the 1st hole, 2 best on the second, 3 best on the 3rd, and then repeat. Alternatively, you can do it where you use the 1 best on the par 5s (or 3s), 2 best on the par 4s, and 3 best on the par 3s (or 5s).

I do like the idea of 2-man teams, though, since that will limit me to disappointing one person when I don't play to my handicap, rather than 3 people.black%20eye.gif

Hey guys, I've been in the UP and haven't posted for a couple of days.
Looks like there has been some discussion on the GolfWRX member to participate issue.
First off, to the guy who referred to Bill and I as "golf nazi's". I don't appreciate that comment at all!
The backstory to this GolfWRX outing idea is , I mentioned in a post I was a Forest Dunes member.
Bill pm'd me how much he liked The Dunes, I invited Bill and his buddy Josh as my guests at the guest rate.
Now we are good friends and never would have met if not for GolfWrx. The idea was to extend this rate to
The rest of the GolfWrx family and meet some like minded guys that love golf and great golf courses.

Having said all that, let's keep this primarily GolfWrx members. If you have a best bud that is not a GolfWrx'r
And wants to play, by all means bring him/her. But to bring our own foursomes or groups is contrary
To the spirt of this event. Hope that clears up our thought process a little.

To the question of how many needed to make this happen? It will happen whether we have 4 or 24.

We have 6 committed for 24 spots. If we fill the 24 I will expand the field on tee time availble basis.
I have reserved 9:00 till 10:00 am and 2:30 till 3:30 so adding prime times in the am will be difficult.
Committ as early as possible please.

Kevin,
Saturday afternoon is a go. Once we fill the field, I anticipate several others will want to play on Saturday afternoon. We'll get a count and I'll make the tee times. If I can play with you the rate will be $75.00. If not, the unaccompained guest rate will be $95.00.

BTW, p.m. me your regular e-mail.

Just curious but what are the age / HCs of the guys playing in this?

I'm excited BTW!

I'm 31 and play to a 7 right now (09 year ending). Was very inconsistent last year going from 14 to 5 in july back up to 8 and usually shoot 78 - 80. Can go VERY low when the Driver is working, can go VERY high when the driver is not working.

34...ended the year about a 3 handicap. How does the Canadian handicap relate to a US handicap? If you shoot 78-80 then you are probably a 5 handicap or so..based on the calculation. Top 10 scores of 20 then a percentage after taking into account course index you are using.
Forest Dunes it actually a pretty open track off the tee. There are a few tough driving holes, especially from the tips. Hole 2 is >450 and tree lined on both sides, hole 4 is a difficult drive ( more of a layup with a slight cut), #6 can be tough if into the wind , #8 is long..usually hitting 200 yard into a pensiular green with water long and right and lots of sand, #12 you hit out of a chute, and 18 can be tough to hit the fairway if windy..not as wide as one would think. Otherwise, you swing away on most holes. I will guarantee you will never see a course in better condition. Props to the grounds crew there.

I knew this topic was going to get started. Just didn't know when I'd have to reveal myself as the old geezer and hack of the group.
56 years old, 10.9 index.

One of my goals for 10' is to play in the GAM senior match play. Need to be an 8.8 index or lower by the entry deadline, around May 10th. So there is a chance I'll be under a 9 index by the time we play. Hope so.

I'm 33 years old, and my index at the end of '09 was 1.7, which was the lowest it got all year. I played most of the year between 2 & 3. Early season rounds usually bump the index up a bit as I knock off the rust, so I'll probably be closer to a 3 in May.
Last time I played FD (twice in one day in October), I think I shot 79 and 81 (from the tips), and in the four times I've played there, I've hung around 80 every time. The greens always get me, as they're faster than most places. They are the truest, best conditioned greens I've ever seen, though. Absolutely immaculate conditioning throughout the entire course, but the greens are the most impressive aspect to me.
For this outing, is it ok if we choose which tees we play? Shouldn't be a problem with the handicaps, since course handicaps will depend on the slope from whichever tees we play, anyway.

Count me in guys. I'm just an hour and a half away. My club was under renovation last year so I don't have an official handicap, but I'd estimate its a 8. I think I'd also be up for a Saturday afternoon practice round.

Kgeorge, you make sure to bring all the new gear for the rest of us to try out!! biggrin.gif

EDIT: I'm 32 years old.

Forest Dunes tees are numbered, not color coded. i.e. the 1 tees are the longest 2 tees next and so on. I suggest one round from the 1 tees at 7141 and one round from the 2 tees at 6579. Holes #3,8,9,10,14,16,&18 play way different from the tips. Should make for an interesting change of pace. If the group wants to play both rounds from the tips, I'm ok with that also.

Openwater, I sent Richard (easyyy) a PM.
Mike (chickenpotpie) ... thanks for the PM,

This is great. I will see if my schedule is ok. I am freaky busy and the 2 kids make these types of things tough for me but you only live once. I just emailed a friend of mine John Bova who is a member there and told him about this outing. He lives a few blocks away from me. And JHR, Boomer and a few others might be interested also. I will see.

Thanks for reaching out.

Richard :)
